Hunting with vintage equipment

I would love to see pics of vintage archery whitetail setups, stuff you actually hunt with, vintage bows, [Bears, Ben Pearsons,etc] and whatever other vintage archery stuff you guys still hunt with.

I will post a pic later, but I am comitted to killing a deer with a vintage one piece Super Kodiak this fall. It's a bow my Dad gave me when I was about 15.

Here's a pic of a doe I shot two seasons ago with an early '70's 70lb Bear Grizzly bow with old aluminum arrow.  The fletching was solid white.  The arrow buried itself almost to the nock.  The arrow came out some when she hit the ground which was in sight of the tree I shot her from.

Hey Trooper,

What did you hit on the doe that you shot? I hit a doe like that once and was really kicking myself because I flinched right before I released and figured I had wounded the deer and would have a hard time recovering her. Turns out she died about 100 yards from where she was shot. The arrow hit the kidney and the liver. She died fairly quickly.

As far a vintage stuff... I hunt with this guy sometimes.

I've got a mid 60's Damon Howatt Hunter that I'm re-finishing and I'm setting up some older Easton X7's for it. I'll post some pics when I get home.

This 1976 Super Kodiak did the job last November.  As you can see, my girlfriend there shoots a LH '65 Kodiak.

Gatekeeper,
I hit the femoral artery.  I don't normally take a shot at that angle.  Actually, that doe came in a little nervous.  The wind was swirling and I think she got a whif of my scent.  When I shot she was totally broadside.  She turned to run and that's where the arrow hit.  This is why I shoot the heavest bow that I can shoot acurately along with heavy arrows; to get the penetration needed in case of a poor hit it may turn into a lethal hit, like this one.  That arrow actually made it into her chest cavity and took out a lung.  She didn't run far; I watched her fall.

I hunted with a Damon-Howatt Hi-Speed a couple of years ago and kiilled a buck in Kansas.  I decided to shoot it at the archery range a couple of weeks ago.  While at full draw it exploded into 4 pieces. :{  Jim

Here was my set up last year, a '62 Bear Kodiak, homemade cedars, Zwickey Deltas, Arrowmaster quiver.  I missed a nice 8 point buck on the ground during a snow storm at dark.  Hey, it happens, especially when the arrow hit a twig.
 
The year before this big doe was shot with a '72 Kodiak Hunter 43#.

I think it's very cool that when this pic was taken,everything in this pic was top of the line gear.And 40 years later it ALL still works just as good.I'd love to find some vintage camo like that in my size.

I hear that elbow...This season I'm thinking my '64 Kodiak or maybe my '68...had been planning on my green stripe Bear takedown but I've been shooting the '64 for the past week and am really enjoying it.

Here's a KY buck I took last season using a 1955/56 Bear Kodiak Special, vintage Bear cedar arrows and Bear quiver.  It's the same bow and quiver that appeared on the Feb/Mar. 2010 cover of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine.

Thanks Chris.  That photo has done some good along the trail.  I donated a print of it to PBS for their Nashville fundraiser and plan on releasing the rest of the series in time to help next year's TG St. Jude Fundraiser.  I have another TBM cover shot coming before too long, but right now the subject's a secret:^)
