I have always shot recurves and am thinking about trying a long bow, what are some of the smoothest longbows you have had or have?
Never measure the mountain until you have reached the top, then you will see how low it is.

Wannabe1

Right now the smoothest longbow I've shot is a Black Widow PLX that I have. But, I've got a couple of other models coming so, I'll let you know more later. Oh ya, I have a Hornes T/D that is a very smooth shooting 3pc.

The smoothest that I've drawn is the Acadian Woods Tree Stick. They feel lighter than what the spec says, but you put it on a scale and it's dead on....they are butter!

Cant say, but there sure are a LOT of good ones these days. What one guy dont like is just what the next guy is looking for.

For me its Northern Mist(any model) and the not-so-long-bow Super Shrew, both are real sweet!

The smoothest longbow I have shot is the Cari-bow Featherhorn with a Pronghorn LB not far behind.  Ken

i really like grizzlylongbows : smooth and fast, not to mension mike is a great guy to do business with.a real down to earth guy.    :campfire:
form is everything! shoot well shoot hard.

LimbLover

Well we are all going to tell you what we like. I love the Bamas from Bama Bows. I don't think you can beat them for the money. I liked mine enough to put the recurve down for good.

The Dwyer Dauntless is a sweet shooting bow. The Black Widow PLX. Northern Mist Baraga, etc.

Smoothest that I've shot and have = Pronghorn, Bowyer = Herb Meland.
The work praises the man.

J.D. berry tai pan. shot alot of longbows, but nothing better. James has been making bows for a long time. great guy to deal with.

Big River by John McDonald of Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

MikeM

the smoothest I have ever shot was an A&H ACS

mookie

I would have to got with the Horne's combo hunter 3-pc.

thump

I have been shooting a recurve for around 35+ years and the Fox Royal crown was the smoothest and easiest longbow to switch to so far

Bjorn

ACS CX is as smooth and quiet as it gets. The top bows are separated by personal preferences and marketing; you need to shoot lots of them-many bowyers offer a try before you buy program.

Curveman

For real longbows as I define them (longbow risers and "D" shaped when strung), my favorite is the Border Griffon. If you are talking semi-recurves or hybrids then there are many a bit smoother but they don't capture that "longbow feeling" for me. Great bows though!

LimbLover is right - we're each going to give you our preference. I like Howard Hill longbows.

Whatever you get, learn how to hold it correctly - depending on grip style, it *probably* shouldn't be held like you hold your recurves.

ranger42

Alot of the bows today are smooth drawing, but the feel on release can be quite different. The deflex/reflex bows feel more like the recurve to me. I like the looks and feel of a d-shaped bow.

cbCrow

I'm going to chime in with my pick: Lynn Harrelson Achery.  :archer:

JPNTN

Mike Treadway, Black Creek, and Big Jim all make some excellent bows for a reasonable price; don't think you can go wrong with either of them. Do a search on these guys here and you will find some great reviews on each.  If at all possible, shoot before you buy. Mike does not have a website, so you can get his # from me or someone else on TG if you decide to go that route (just send PM).  The other guys have websites.  Whatever you decide, these guys are definitely worth checking into.

ISP 5353

21st Century and Fox are both very smooth in the draw cycle.
