Are crossbows trad?

Just wondering what the thoughts are out there about crossbows on this site. Cross bows were used way back when. Shouldn't they be recognized as traditional equipment? Should we turn our backs on peaple who are physically limited to using a crossbow? I not talking about the compound configuration or scoped models, just the ones that replicate the ones of old. Not trying to start a fight, just want opinions.
