Yeah only because he broke his sequin collar

I'm sure this is only a coincidence, but Barnum Bailey had "lost bear" fliers posted all over La Tuque. I sure hope they find Fozzie.    :dunno:

By the way, what do you think the water looks like after you clean up from skinning a 329 pound bear? Here is a hint.

Barry, that was at least 4 paragraphs. How did you ever write a book??? All I can say about that whole big explanation (excuse) is;

For hunting to have a future, we must invest ourselves in future hunters.

Doc, What can a guy say but OUSTANDING! I believe your starting to get the knack of this bear hunting stuff.

Gatekeeper

Barry, I was glad to help, but I'm not buying all of what you wrote.

I can tell by your eyes when you're lying even through the computer and I'm going to have to call you out on this one.

Tom, the last guy I saw wearing a hat like yours had a knife tucked away at the base of his neck between his shoulder blades and could throw it with deadly accuracy. He went by the name of "Mississippi!" Ha!

It was good hunting with you and I'm glad you got a nice bear! Mike

Mr. Gatekeeper I know what you mean, after spending a week with Barry's friend Mike Mitten that is! Never heard you leave this morning, but I felt you kiss my cheek. Thanks.

Hey Tippit- how can any of us post a bear picture after you lead with that one? That's as big as they got. We've all got "bear" envy!!

July 4th weekend of 2009 my brother Ricky, his fiance Jodi, and my brother, Tom, stayed late after a family picnic at our house to sit around the fire.  Rick, out of the blue, said, "I'd like to go on a hunting trip with Dad."  Without a second thought I said, "Bear Quest 4 with Tom Phillips would probably be the best."  Tommy, Dad, and myself were already booked and we would keep it a secret from Dad.  Now Rick is not a hunter, let alone a traditional bowhunter.  But within a week his spot was booked with us on the first week and we got him shooting an old black-Black Widow SAIII I had hanging on the wall.  Rick is a natural athlete and was shooting bullseyes at 15 yards the first day.

From left to right:  My brother, Tom, Dad, Rick, and myself headed out to hunt and film eachother on the water baits in Quebec.
The secret of Rick going on the hunt was kept a secret from my father for 11 months.  Long story short, my brother Tommy, Rick, and our friend Don Valley met the other hunters of Bear Quest 4 on Saturday June 12th and hunted that night.  Rick sat with our brother Tommy and filmed him shooting his first bear on the hill billy stand.  Dad, my brother-in-law Jon, and myself were at a dance recital on Saturday for our daughters Ellie (Jon's) and Brooke (mine).  We left directly after the recital and arrived at camp on Sunday morning at 8 AM.  Dad and Jon were very surprized to see Rick in camp.  After an emotional meeting we got to skinning Tommy's 270+ lb. boar.  (Someone post a pic of Tom's bear.  I don't have one)

On Sunday evening, with my father filming, Rick took his first game animal ever with bow and arrow.  It was his first time on stand and first arrow released at a big game animal ever!

I sat the moose tower and in the first 4 days saw 9 different bear with over 25 sightings.

On the 4th night, with rain falling, and darkness setting in, I had a grey wolf sneak up to less than 8 yards behind my stand.  Unfortunately, I was not able to get it on film.  But, I have to say that with all the many natural wonders that I have been fortunate enough to see out in the wild while bowhunting, this ranks right at the top of the list.  I'm betting the word "surreal" would be the word used by most to explain the experience.  To see that alpha predator so close, not knowing that I was perched just above him, made me feel connected to the wilderness.

On Thursday, night number 5, I had the 10th different bear come to the bait.  With camera rolling I hit anchor and released.  The arrow placement was perfect and the bear went less than 100 yards.  Tippit, Brandon, and George helped me retrieve my bear just after dark.  Thanks again guys for your help.

More pics and story tomorrow.

JC

Awesome stories guys, hate I've not been able to make it back up there. It really is a special place.

Way to go Doc, I'm thrilled to death for you brother. Great reliving of the hunt with the tales and pics, keep it up please!
