New Bow Need HELP!!
«
on:
February 23, 2010, 12:09:00 AM »
Just got my new bow in today and I was getting everything set like my nock point, silencers, all that stuff...
SO I used the dynamic spine calc to get in the ball park and knew that i would have some fine tuning to do...well i got to shooting and all my arrows are hitting the the left of where i was aiming...Well i looked at my arrow and had no feathers hitting...then i nocked an arrow and studied it...MY arrow is kicked out from my shelf...I added a LOT of weight up front(from 150 to 285) and even shot an arrow that was pretty far underspined to see what happened...Well the arrows started hitting where i was looking at so that tells the that the underspined arrows are wrapping around the riser...I'm adding pictures so you guys can see what's going on...Please tell me if something is actually wrong with the bow or it's something that i can fix...
Thanks in advance guys!!

looks like you need to adjust your brace height of your string, take a tape measure and start at
7 inches or so and go from there, you have to twist your string to achieve that.also to quiet
the arrow you might put a thin piece of leather
on the side of the rest also known as the window.
just a good place to start, good luck!

The bow is a custom made bow for me...The brace height that he said I should start at is 7 1/2"...That's what it's set at now...Shoulda included that when i posted up...When i hold the bow strait in line with the shelf...the string is WAY to the right...
I didn't put a strike plate on just becuse i didn't have one on hand tonight...going to go grab on tomorrow..

coty, the reason i thought it was your bh is that
the longest feathers are 5 inches and your feathers are sitting on the rest, so if your arrow is nocked deep you need more bh,also is this a recurve or LB. if its a recurve make sure
there is no twist in your upper limb, if this
doesn't help,take it back to a shop,good luck.

It is a recurve...Shoulda put that in there too...This is a brand new bow just got it today in the mail...and limbs dont seem to be twisted but it is a takedown...
Predator is there any specific pics i should put up?
Also can i put up a video? That might help a little if i could do that...

coty, if its a td make sure that you have the limbs attached properly and everything is seated
smoothly, did you string it with a bowstringer,if not limbs can be twisted if not properly strung, most bows that are damaged is due to improper stringing!

Yes I have made sure that I put them on correctly...and From the first time that i strung the bow I have used a stringer to make sure that I didn't twist the limbs...I have contacted the bowyer to see if he can fix it...I'm just kinda frustrated right now after waiting 6 months it seems like everything is going wrong with this thing!! There's been a lot of bumps in the road to get it here...

Well I talked to the bowyer and we got it figured out...The shelf was cut to center so that's what we figure is wrong...It was my mistake I thought all recurves were cut to center or past center...So I'm sending it back and he is going to gladly fix it!! I'm super glad that it's something simple!! Thanks for all your guys input and my ranting!!!

Are you sure you measured the brace height correctly. Only reason for asking is the photo showing wrap on shelf and it looks like fletch touching side plate.

I measured my braceheight to the lowest point on my handle...I'm shooting 7 inch wraps with 5" RW shield feathers...It looks like it in the photo but they're not touching the shelf...And when I fletch my arrow i start my feather one inch from the end of the shaft...
