Any hints on how to best remove turkey wing feathers from the wing and preparing them for fletching?

Tommy Leach

I cut the quill with a pair of wire cutters and ship to Raven arrows. They do a great job grinding and have reasonable rates. Tommy

I take a razor and split the skin at the base of the quill to get em out. They can be a real bear to get out, and that's what works eaiset for me.

I use a pair of side cutters to cut them off as well.

I raise turkeys and found that you can just latch hold of them and pull them out if need be take some rubber gloves to them for grip, separate them in to right and left wind and do as Tommy Leach posted, I have a bunch that I need to have done but I have been lazy about it, they sit in two big zip lock bags.  I have to thank Tommy for the tip, but they will come right out and who eats that part of the wing anyway, Joe

Start at the tip.  Run a sharp fillet knife along the quill, both sides for the first feather, then along the inside of each suceeding one.  Make sure you cut all the way to the bone.  Bill

Wire cutters for me! As simple as it is to make into fletching I can't imagine sending them off! Just my opinion. All the local turkey hunters know I use them and don't want to waste them so most every night during turkey season I come home from work theres a new set of wings or two by garage door!

16 gauge did you notice I said "most every night during turkey season I come home from work theres a new set of wings or two by garage door!"

Thats exactly why I think bare shaft tuning is so important incase my buddies quit giving me turkey wings!

I used to use wire cutters until I got a band saw.  I love power tools!!
