I´m using Tung Oil on my arrows for the first time.
Usually I use tape for fletching, but I wonder if this will work on Tung Oil.

Has anyone got experience with that?
And how many days would you let the last coat dry for?

Thanks for any input!

I've used the tape over teak oil, but not tung.  If it's dry, no problem.  Duco works too and I'm too fumbly with the tape, so that's what I use.
Only when the last tree has died
and the last river been poisoned
and the last fish been caught
will we realize that we cannot eat money

I've done up some shafts with Danish Oil (let them soak submerged in it overnight) and fletched them with Bohning Supreme. So far, they seem to stay on ok. I've never used the fletch tape.

I've used the tape on tung oil with no problems.

Thank you guys!
I´ll just give it a try.

I tried using Bohning fletching tape on douglas fir shafts. I put on 2 coasts and after 24 hours after the last coat was applied I tried to fletch them. The tape would not adhere to the shaft.

Any suggestions or ideas. What may I be doing wrong?

Somethings not right. I've fletched several dozen Doug Fir's and Sitka  Spruce shafts, sealed with tung oil, using Boning tape... never had a problem.
Maybe the conditions were too humid for the oil to dry completely after 24 hours? Also, I'm drifty enough to have tried a feather and forgot to peel the tape, but I might have that distinction to myself.
Let us know some more, it absolutely should work fine.

P.S. - never had a failure due to tale in 4 or 5 years of using them, unless it were my error.

I use either Duco or tape with Watco Oil.  A dry warm breezy couple of days help,  I put on three coats, wiped on, rubbed in.  The last coat take a long time to dry, but it is the best I have found and when it get a little target wear, I just wipe some on the worn area.

The pure Tung Oil I use from the Milk Paint Co. takes at least 3 days to dry to the touch. I live in "dry" heat so in humid conditions maybe a week to really dry. Another reason the tape may not stick is residue from the oil still on shaft. Use a clean rag and polish the surface.
