Save your $500, go to any and every 3D shoot you can after deer season, shoot every single bow you can get your hands on, in 6 months you will have saved yourself many, many thousands of dollars and have a much better idea of the bow that fits YOUR needs best.

Or, if you want to skip right to the end result, buy a used Morrison and be done with it    ;)

I would buy a used Toelke Whip or Chinook. They usually go somewhere in the $400-$500 range

I've shot a lot of bows. You give me $500 to spend and I'll find another Canebrake and Longhunter.
If you have one in the 50# area, I would consider a swap.

If you're buying your first bow, I'd definitely recommend getting a couple of used bows and see in what direction your interest lies. In the 4 years I've been shooting, I've probably bought and sold 20 bows. Overall, I think I'm actually a couple of bucks ahead, but if it cost me a few, that would be OK too. I have a pretty good idea now what I want to own.

I will have at least one "D" type longbow and it will probably be a Mohawk Sparrowhawk 2-piece.

No way will I part with my Lost Creek r/d longbow.

And the one bow I won't even consider selling is the first bow I ever bought. I got a recurve, 60" 50# @ 28 from a local, relatively unknown maker. This bow by Kevin Cramer is physically the lightest bow on my rack. It draws smoother than any of my other bows, and is a real joy to shoot. I would get very little for it if I sold it as the maker did not mark it, but even if someone offered me $500 for it, I'd say "No" because I don't think I could replace it, even used, for that price.

I'd say do some shooting with a variety of used, but "good" bows that you think you might like. Try everyone's bow that you can get your hands on. . Then, when you have a good idea of what you really want, sell a couple of bows, put that money down on your "dream" bow and be happy until you find the next one you absolutely have to have   :)

A good, used one of your choice. There are many listed in the classifieds that will fall in your price range. However, you do need to do your homework and determine exactly what your looking for. Good luck.

Do some careful investigative work and find a nice recurve or longbow that your wife will love to own and shoot! Believe me the dividends immediate and down the road will keep a smile on your face and it will be the best $500.00 you ever spend      :coffee:
