Man I love my Fenix Main Beam from BOTB.  Great hiking in the dark (Elk Hunting) in Grizz country and being able to spotlight something you are not sure of that is making noise in the meadow you just hiked into.

Gene/Barry:notworthy:...on the re-design....any thought to making a headband that would put the light on top of the head instead of at the temple? It would cause less peripheral glare and also wearing eyeglasses, they catch some of the light and bounce it back into the nearside eye.  Mounted on top of the head would be a big improvement imo for both comport and sight. I'm from VT so I'm very intelligent...trust me.LOL.

next month is my birthday and mrs bowdoc gave me the green light to order a main beam from Uncle Barry.I'am going to get the extra batteries and all.I've checked the main beam out while hunting in Que'bec several times Eric and I used his or someone's on a blood trail one night and it was top notch. That has to be one of the best if not the best small compact flash lights period. Can't hardly wait.bd

I used my Main Beam last night for the first time and dang if it wasn't the best light I've ever used! The lowest setting is more than enouph for getting to and from your stands. My son was using my mini-mag that I've used for years- no comparison.

"What kind/make of flashlight do yall carry?"

For CARRYING (in pocket or pack, as opposed to a camping light, serious bloodtrailing, etc.) its hard to beat a little 8" MagLite for practicality.  Its inexpensive (paid $10 for each of mine, saw some for $8 recently), small size and has good 'seeability'.  Uses regular AA so batteries you can find in any store and they last quite awhile.  Converts to a stand-up 'candle' for close-up no-hands use.  I have one regular and one LED, the latter providing more light but the former better for first-step bloodtrailing (LED light is too 'white' to see blood spatters easily, at least for me).  The second light also provides a spare in case of loss or breakage but the latter hasn't been a problem, they are pretty tough.  Slide a piece of small-diameter bike inner tube over end of it and presto...a good non-slip grip that makes a good 'mouth light' for field dressing critters in low light.

I probably sound like a commercial but after years of using them (including through a 10-days-with-no-power ice storm...wouldn't have sold mine for gold at that point) I'm happy with the practicality of these handy little buggers.

I have use these two Pelican lights for a long time; the Pocket Sabre and the LED Stealth Lite.

They are tough and reliable.

The Pocket Sabre produces a long narrow beam that you can see for a very long way. I like the belt clip, this allows me to hang it on my shirt while climbing/setting up my stands and other uses (http://www.pelican.com/lights_detail.php?recordID=1820).

The Slealth Lite is a very brite white lite, excellent for blood trailing, a very long run time on the batteries (http://www.pelican.com/lights_detail.php?recordID=2410).

Main Beam for me- still using the same batteries I used in February on the Pig Gig- and it gets regular use. I don't know whether to be happy about the improved version or not; something else I have to buy, lol.  Grant

WOW, I just received my main beam light from BOTB, ordered friday night late and got it the mail monday, what an awesome light and well worth the money. Thanks Gene and Barry!

I am not so happy with my Main Beam.  I need to change the batteries.  I have only had the darned thing two and a half years (I use it a LOT) and I have to change the batteries already.  Geezers

Good thing I bought that extra set when I bought the flashlight.

that one - uses one AA battery (don't get the on that uses two 5 dollar batteries - CR123)
125 Lumens - the Surefire and others are exspensive (and I may lose it) this one is 30 bucks and I can buy 6 for the price of the fancy rechargeable ones. I searched and searched at the beginning of the year and found this one - try and beat it.
I prefer all my items to be small and light weight, this one fits the bill.

ChuckC

Sorry Rich.  That Main Beam is my choice for a reason.  Everybody who sees it work comments about it.  I know it is a bit more expensive, but I don't buy it with losing it in mind.

Works great for me.  ( OK Barry  you can send that check to . . .)

I'm probably not too bright (no pun intended) telling people this (hindering sales) but the Main Beam flashlights come with a little lanyard and a scabbard. I've had three guys now who have all lost their flashlights while walking in the brush apparently when the lanyard catches on a branch and unknowingly sucks the light right out of their scabbard. Last winter while hunting hogs in Texas I found my light dangling three feet off the ground from a mesquite branch on my way back to the truck. If you use the lanyard just loop it around the scabbard to prevent loss or just disregard the lanyard. By the way Rich, the $5. CR123 are $2. on our brothersofthebow website. There's also a two part you-tube demo showing the capabilities of the light compared to the more expensive lights. Thanks for all the positive feedback. It really is an unbelievable hunters tool. BW

Barry - I did look at your website after Chuck replied to my post - I never compared the Main Beam flash light to mine (the comparison was to another gander flashlight that uses the CR battery - 220 lumens) If I would have known you sold the batteries that cheap, it would have changed my mind when I made my purchase. I guess once I lose mine, I'll order one. I meant no disrespect with my opinion. Live and learn I guess.

ChuckC

Rich. .  we all have to add our ideas.  I didn't know about that light till Barry posted on it.  Heck,  maybe yours IS better.  We don't know till we share.

Don't feel like anyone is disrepected, long as they really weren't.

If you can,  you really should take a look at that lil dude.  I am amazed at what it does.

Keep posting,  I wanna hear your ideas too.

Barry. .   did they tell you WHERE abouts they lost them.  Sounds like time for a walk in the woods

I use a badlands head lamp it has 10 or 12 l.e.d's and three positions of brightness and one for red.I always use l.e.d for the fact they are white and that does not spook deer as does yellow.

Any chance you can PM me when they get it, Gene?

Thanks,

Uncle Barry,
I showed my wife the link to your site, and the link for Mike's book. Nothing like dropping a major hint.
