A couple of "Maybe... Nope!" photos...

I got these from my mate Tony's camera yesterday, and thought I'd share them. They are from a hunt a couple of weekends ago, where we knocked-over a couple of boars, but got mucked-around by the ever swirling wind aside from them. But, it was still fun!

A little "pucker" factor going on there? How close were they in that bottom pick?

25 or 30 metres.

Nah, no worries there at all, as they were just a couple of cows and a calf, and both Tony and I grew-up with cattle, and can read them pretty well. They're just curious. Buffalo cows and calves are nothing like I've read elephant cows and calves or grizzly sows and cubs to be. If it had've been a bull, then Tony would've had the rifle more ready, rather than taking photos. They're actually pretty timid and placid, cows, and more alert. But, on the other hand, although we learn general habits of different species, Howard Hill's sound advice is always at the back of my mind - something along the lines of never being totally able to predict an animal's behaviour.

I was after the larger, dry cow.

Well, Ray, my mate Tony took his family for a holiday over to Broome earlier this year, and one of the tourist traps there is the camel ride along the beach, which they duly fell-for. At the attached souvenir shop, they bespied this toy camel key-ring, and Tony hatched an evil plan to commemorate my slaying of a wild camel a month earlier. When they came back to Katherine, they called-in to pick-up their dogs which we'd been looking-after, and at some stage he disappeared long-enough to attach the toy camel to my quiver. When I went to use it next, there it was! It's stayed ever since as a bit of a joke, and has been in at the kill on a couple of terrific boars and a couple of lesser pigs, as well as numerous fruitless stalks. Tony would say it's on there because I'm a wuss, and a teddy is too big to carry around the bush - but don't believe a word of it: any tougher, and I'd be wearing hessian undies!
