So... How many of you fellas and gals take a "cold shot" for hunting practice? What I mean is this... Just walk outside and shoot at your 3D target just once. Sometimes I'll do that before going to work. Other times just before dark with a judo at a blade of grass.

Kinda builds the spirit up if ya know what I mean. If you hit your target that is.

I do a shot before I go to work.  Pretty much all I'm shooting is broadheads right now.  Definately gets you in the right mind.

Generally a few weeks before the season I will shoot one shot a day at one of my 3D targets. Sometimes it is in the morning, sometimes in the evening and sometimes both but just one arrow each time.

My first shot is usally my best so I have quit shooting more than 3 shots at a time.

its a great way to practice i think
the first shot of the day is the most important
and if i have the time ill go out and just shoot one arrow 2 or 3 times a day

I got 9 3D targets by the house and I just walk out and shoot each target with just one arrow. I move from 1o yard to 25 yards nd change were I shoot each target from each day...so it get me as close to hunting as I can get. Now the real question is how well do I do, I still have my share of missing the super kill area on the 3D. Some days it seems all is right with whoever and I can not seem to miss, but some of the other days. Yesterday my first shot was down hill from about 12 yards, I hit high, not in the supper kill area, but would have been a double lung. The next target I shopped about 23 yards away and had a good solid hit. so yesterday was one of the better days.

I never want to get caught shooting "cold" when hunting season hits. Before each hunt, I always shoot about 7-10 arrows in my shop bag from 5 yds. I want to be somewhat loose before I settle in to my hunting area.

Even when I travel to CT or Jersey, Bamboo, Scott and myself always shoot about 5-6 arrows into a bag prior to starting out. Even when I'm in my ambush location(ground blind) I'll pull my bow back to keep the muscles loose.

Good thread Iron Mike!

Well Mike..... As you probly very well know,

Anyone who has seen me shoot knows that the more I shoot, the worse I get!!!!!

The first shot is almost always "right on" (or very,VERY close) People will watch me pick up my bow and drive one right into the old "rubber pump room"

GREAT SHOT!!!!! They will say. "Can ya do it sgain????? Then my usual response is.....

"Probly Not"
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

Point taken Joe... I'm talking about being at home and testin' your self with a "cold" shot. But during a day of hunting my judo arrow does get a workout.

Mikey...even before I head out to practice in the yard or stumpshoot, I still warm up on the bag with 7-10 arrows. Being loose and getting the kinks out is important for that "first" shot of the day at something stationary or walking around with 4 legs...  ;)    :archer:

I always warm up before going on a hunt, it doesn't take that long.  Really!     :saywhat:

I shoot one arrow several times but describe the practice session as a good or bad one based on the very first shot. It is either of the form to repeat or of the form to correct. The first shot dictates the "flavor" of the practice.

I warm up every time when I go out if I am not shooting with the car light or I set my headlamp and shoot about five arrows and I carry a bunch of blunts, and I shoot all day. Blake
