Wouldn't be a Northern Mist longbow by Steve Turay would it???

Lame Bear was a burly old Mountain Man from Michigan. He made a real nice longbow, I even sold a few of his bows when I first opened up my shop back in 1995.

He then hooked up with another fellow here from Woodstock, NY and they were into bows and muzzleloaders. I lost contact with him back in '99 and someone had mentioned to me he passed away.

One of those real gentle giants who had a big heart.

thank you for the info.  sorry to hear he has passed.  this bow is much faster and smoother than it looks.  hardly any stack even @ 30"

LameBear

Recent reports of my untimely demise seem to have been greatly exaggerated.

I have only just found out about this forum.

Anti-Wheelz - please contact me via private message. I'd like to talk to you about my bow!

I would, seriously, be interested in speaking with anyone who has, or has had, one of my bows.

Now that's cool, the power of the internet, glad to hear your still looking down at the daisy's instead of up at the roots LameBear.

Geez, this internet thing really does reach out there lol.

Dang LameBear, You really got a name for yourself now.  Kinda like "build it and they wil come" that is before your next demise!!  Glad to see your still kickin'...Doc

Thanks, Doc,
The next 'demise', like the last few, certainly overstated!

Whoaa!!  LameBear, don't know you but sure glad to have heard of you in this way. It must be nice for you to receive such an unsolicited compliment about your skill as a bowyer.  Your new slogan could be, "My bows will last beyond my preceived lifetime".  Glad to see that you are very much alive!  I'll keep an eye peeled for your bows.

Good to see your on the "right" side of the dirt! Thats neat that someone can make contact that way!!!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

Hey there Len; glad to hear you are still breathing. It's been more than 15 years since we built a bow or two. Drop in, if you ever get back this way.

Hi, Chuck, How the hell are ya?
It's been at least that long since I've built bows - more like 20 since you showed me what to do.
Have you heard from John Beckwith lately?

Steve, my bows have outlived me once already! Just might have to use that when I get back into it. I have the materials for the press and for the hotbox - guess I'd better get busy, Eh?

Len, there's no time like the present.  You surely can't build them while 6 feet under.  Time to resurrect the dead and start building again!

Lame, it has been awhile... ive been extrememly busy.  just to let most of you know.  i had picked up this bow some years back, when i wasn't very knowledgeable of the sport.  Then, i almost made a mistake i would have certainly regretted for some time. I injured my shoulder thinking i would not be able to pull the full weight and draw of this bow. i sold this bow on **** for near to nothing vs. its value to me.  then a bit later i picked up a top of the line modern reflex-deflex with a little lower draw weight becasue i just couldnt give up the traditional approach to hunting.  to my amazement... this bow SUCKED compared to my, now sold, custom built bow by "Lame".  At the time, i didnt have anything else to compare this bow to. Lame found my post on this site and was interested to know how i liked it.  i almost didnt have the heart to tell him about my recent stupidity.  after speaking with him for what must have been an hour on the phone, i decided i HAD to track down this bow. Miraculously i ended up buying it back!!!  I have shot many bows since i first sold my bow.  i will tell you, nothing i have shot comes close to the speed, forgiveness, absensce of hand shock, and overall predictability of this bow.   THANK YOU LAME, I NOW LOVE THIS SPORT AGAIN!

LameBear

Hi, Chad, Thank you for your most kind comments concerning my bow. A lot of my 'skills' as a bowyer is due Chuck, the one who got me started. Yes, I've made a few changes and have a few of my own ideas as to a well made bow, but even that is due to my 'mentor' and friend.
I hope, very soon, to be back making these bows again. I can tell you all, if the level of quality in the new bows is not equal to, or exceeds, what I used to make, I will not make them.
I am getting things together to make arrows and trying to get the equipment built to make the bows.
If anyone has any questions, comments, or just wants to talk - please contact me at your convenience.
If anyone else has, has had, knows anyone who has, or has had, one of my bows - please contact me! I am very interested in knowing all I can about the history of any of my bows.
Thanks,
LameBear

I remember Lame Bear...  I'm not sure if he's building any more but he was a good guy.
