Sounds good buddy have a safe drive, and see you Thursday night.  Well if its slow, shoot me a call when you get into town.

Shaun

My mind is already in the mountains but my form is still in corn country. Elk roast for dinner Tuesday when Jim gets here - a little reminder to shoot straight when the chance comes. Then pack the gear and head west on Wednesday morning. 5 and a wake up till elk day!

Gehrke145

Well LITTLEBIGMAN and Shaun made it down here ok and things are looking good.  I saw a few 5xs this morning.  So as soon as it gets light we will regroup and hang a few stands for Saturday!

Sawtooth

Best of luck, fellas!  I'm heading out early this afternoon for my hike in to my little basin.  Looking forward to a great weekend with the elk, my bow, and my wits.

Good Luck Guys!  I'll be in the Weminuche on Tues. with an elk and deer tag in my pocket. Wish I could get there sooner! This wait is killin' me.  Have fun!

Love the pics! First time in 10 years I have not been in elk country. Had a health issue that kept me out of the Rio Grande Nat'l Forrest this go round. The pics make me homesick for a view of Sheep and Windy mountain. Go get 'em boys! Post pics for this flatlander when you do. PLEASE!

Have a great time, guys.  Maybe one day we'll meet in the mountains.

I'm back for three days then back out for 12 off.  So far a passed shot on a calf and the bulls are SCREAMING!!!!!!!!!!  Also now the bear tag will be good and the turkey tag aswell!  I'm thinking after I get back there will be some new pics with some hopefully bloody arrows.  Jim and Shaun are fun to hunt with and will try to check in on them a few more time and maybe be the caller again.

A few pics,
shooting in camp, (no I dont hunt in those shoes lol)
Me and Jim talking a break, shortly after this pic we had a cow, and calf almost run us over.  I passed on the calf, and the cow was moving a little fast for a shot.
And the little Beltcher riser with short ILF limbs.  56 inches and 50 LBS at my 28 inch draw,  I love this thing, no more titans for me!

Gehrke145

Well just a matter of time for the nice bull, been on them every day.  Took a day of rest and went out after turkeys.

Hi all,

Nice post, nice pictures and the most important for me, nice information. I am planning a drop hunt for elk the next year in Colorado, probably at San Juan. I am preparing everything since now as far as I live in Spain, not very close from there.... I started the research with some outfitters for the drop hunt, any recommendation for me??

Congrats on these unforgetable hunting days!!

Great divide is a good one,  If you have backpacking gear thats the way to go.  I would just have a line on some pack horses.  Thanks on the comments guys.  A 20 yard shot after my dad missed one with his compound!

Bonebuster

Excellent. Thanks for posting all the pictures.

Good luck with the elk!

Thanks for the help Gehrkel145. Yes, we will have some pack horses. About Great Divide, which units cover that place?. Sorry if this is a stupid question....

Gehrke145

75/751 for great divide, just got on in from a quick morning hunt, I passed on a cow again.  My dad filled his turkey tag, so off in a few minutes back to the lease.  More pics to come!
