DeerJohn

I just got an email from New Mexico that I drew an elk tag.

J. Adams

Same here.  Just checked my email, and was notified that I was SUCCESSFUL in drawing an archery elk, archery deer and bow-only antelope tag.

Bjorn

Congrats y'all! Well we were 'unsuccessful' and you will have more room; just wait till next year!

J. Adams

Bjorn, You are more than welcome to share my campfire in Unit 48 this September!

I GOT A GILA TAG. LET THE PANDAMONIUM BEGIN
The older I get the better I was

Bjorn

Wow!? You don't need tags in unit 48??

snag

Alright you "Successful" guys...throw us a bone by posting pics and stories. It's been 7 yrs of applying for me. I wonder if I'll ever get a chance to hunt N.M. for elk....? Without preference pts. there is the possibility of never drawing, right? Odds are that eventually you'll draw...right?

I also drew the Cloudcroft area for the same hunt Coaster500.  I haven't had a September tag in many years.  I hope we don't stake out the same wallows.  Good luck.

J. Adams

Bjorn, Yes you need a tag for elk in Unit 48... I was just offering to share some campfire camaraderie up in the high pines of northern NM.  You and any fellow TradGangers are welcome.

Drew unit 15! Last tag was in mid 90s.

Pack, seems the key to 34 is water and lungs built for 10,000 feet. Last time I had three close calls but could not connect. Man what a rush. Good Luck to you also.

I finally drew a tag 8^). Archery elk tag in the Marquez Wildlife area with 15,000 acres and only me and 4 other bowhunters. SWEEEEET! The road to the area is locked and only those with a permit get the combination to the lock. Last year had a 75% success rate for archery and 100% for both muzzleloader seasons.

Marquez is cool place. Looks like a mix of a lot of the old with just enough new to enjoy living there. Definitely off the beaten path.
