In relation to this topic;  http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=074491;p=1  which caught my interest, I figured... why not create a topic for people with heavy bows to post pictures, videos etc.

If anyone else is interested, that is  :archer:

I love my 82# Hill. Pbucket confuses me or I'd post. Get Marlon to post a pic of his 290# Krippelmacher!

Uh oh... shall we say 70# and above? That won't rule too many out  :)

I cant pull a heavy bow but I saw a hunter pull both my bow and my friends bow back at the same time. Mine was a 55 pounder and his was a 60 pound bow. He also strung a 100 pound longbow and pulled it back and held it.

I shoot a Frank SanMarco longbow 80# @28" and have a horn bow ordered from Lukas at Saluki bows  it will be around 80# @30" .  A bit longer draw on it as it will be shot with a thumb ring.

Oberon: I ordered a custom bow from Lukas too, 70# @ 30". Plan to use a thumb ring for that one too.

Mine's not a hornbow though, but I'm definetely getting one at some point in my life  :)

A thumbring is a ring worn on the thumb and is used instead of a three finger release.
It is widely used on Asian style bows or the so called horse bows.
I will try and post a photo of one that I carved from some aluminum-bronze.

Fatboy, which bow did you order from Lukas?
I ordered my horn bow about two months ago and am getting ready to order one of his fiberglass composite bows as well, most likely the Damascus with the horse bow grip, plan to use it in mounted archery.  This one will be a bit lighter on the draw say 65# .  A somewhat lighter bow is very advantageous when shooting off a horse and one is trying to get off multiple shots at a gallop.

Fatboy,
You will love his horn bows, pricey yes indeed but outstanding pieces of bowyers art , in a class by themselves.

So what about pics of heavy bows being pulled?

Here are a few pics of bows I've shot lately.

64" 90#@28" Black Widow PLX.

77#@29" Turkey Creek Longbow. Walnut dymondwood riser, carbon back, glass belly, 100 year old walnut flooring from an old church for the overlays. Hopefully, Ill be the new owner of this one in a week or so.

I shoot a 75# Hill on occasion as well, but it doesnt have enough shelf for me, so its a pain to shoot.

Sorry no full draw pics' yet, but this is my "Tembo" 68" 75# @ 28".

I can shoot it pretty fair, but I don't think I would be able to shoot it for an entire round of 3d targets. If I tried my shooting would get really sloppy.  So more power to ya Marlon.

Well done mate! Just the way Paul intended. One of the best recurve pics I've seen. That bow is begging to go hunting. How about a good story?

Whoops! I meant 80# @ 28", not 29".

A good story? This bow's story includes six pigs, two brumbies and a camel. I must admit that Paul and Bart are Giants I enjoy reading about, look up to and respect, and I am happy to shoot a bow that they would've enjoyed.

I'm shooting a 74# bighorn but after seeing what Marlon is shooting I dont even consider myself in the BIG BOW catagory, guess I'll have to re up my gym membership.  :notworthy:
