My buddy and i went Bowfishing for Carp in Iowa last weekend.  We didn't have a lot of luck, but managed to kill a couple.  We actually tried smoking one of them and it wasn't half bad considering it was car.  Only thing that pissed me off was that someone the day before had come to one of the spots we checked out and killed about 30 carp and just threw them all over land and in the water and just left them.  It smelled like absolute crap and looked awful.  When i carp fish i just slit their belly and throw them back in the water.   It was a method shown to me by a DNR guy and that way the Carp swim away underwater and usually stay sunk just becoming catfish and turtle food.

They (the DNR Department of Natural Resources) do not recommend eating these fish out of these waters. A good friend of ours who has a PHD in Marine Biology and was there when we took these fish said they are probably better than the fish in the lower end of Green Bay but there would still be some serious questions about eating them.  Carp you know are mostly bottom feeders where most of the serious pollution is located. We understand your concern and take it seriously. I even asked about the contamination getting in the composte and the biologist said that would not be as great a problem. Again thanks for your concern.

Way to go Greg!

What did you do to Kevin? You must've shot his goatee off! I've never seen a clean shaven Kevin. He looks just like one of the carp!

Hey , watch it there Terry. Don't be talking about those carp like that. Those are some of the best looking carp I have every seen if I must say so myself.

I got in on the "Kevin Bahr Memorial Day Carp Weekend Extravaganza" back in about 1998-1999-2000, somewhere in there.  Was a great time back in the good old days when Kev would take me and Benny Pinney too!  Ah, yes, the good ole' days....

Kevin Bahr

But Steve, we don't have brown bears here...
So, when are you and Benny gonna come back "outside" and shoot some fish?

Kevin Bahr

Terry, I think the other fellas were using me for a carp decoy.   How was the fishing?

TheFatboy

That looks like alot of fun! I'm definetely gonna try that once in my life.

Our local waters are over populated with them.I've never bowfished before and it's another reason to take my bow out.
