Kip I asked that and he said they see sheds around mid March so the buck hadn't dropped yet. That is quite a bit later than here in GA.

if you have ever come across a fresh lion kill in the woods there is a ton of blood all over the ground.I do not actually see any blood or shodows from the flash.Now I ai'nt saying that pic is not real.I'am just saying I've found several fresh lion kills in our elk hunting area and that sure does not look right to me.The ground would also be well torn up badly around that deers legs from him tring to kick that cat off his neck.One other thought is lions rarely ever kill bucks with antlers.Pretty easy to figure that one out.bd

couple things to ponder. the fact that you don't see any shadows from the flash can easily be explained. the angle of the flash which is above the subject would prevent any shadow noticeable to the lens. lack of blood or disturbed ground could be due to the cat killing the buck off camera and then dragging it to where he triggered it. my guess is the cat attacked that buck and clamped down on it's wind pipe until the buck stopped moving and is dragging it to a spot in the bush where he plans on chowing down.

I think the pic is real, as for the rest of the details I can't say.

I can remember seeing bucks with antlers around Austin in late February and March before.
Wonder if the cat took the time to measure how many inches of horn the buck had. Little sarcasmm there.

I agree with bow doc, when they go for the neck , its death grip, and lots blood, even coytes, do the same thing , Ive seen it  at day light 1st thing  one morning , put few chills up my back side!
