A 5 year journey for turkeys

OK, so I meant 7 Mountain time  
So here I am peeing my pants wondering if I will ever see my bird again or if he is coyote bait. My dad gets back with the calvary (Duke and Sage) our English Setters and I let dad know shoot first ask questions later.We cross the creek and after a few minutes Duke starts acting like he smells something so I tell him to "hunt dead" and about 2 seconds later Mr Gobbler takes off on a run with Sage in hot pursuit and me doin my best to keep up while hollering shoot to my dad. Luckily he didn't have a shot. I get up to a road and look towards the creek to see my turkey laying beside a multi flora rose bush with his head up. He sees me and crawls into it. So I ease down there and start emptying my quiver. The hunt gods found favor in me today.
 
Just in case anyone doesn't think it was my lucky day, when we got back up to my great aunts old house I found these.

Just goes to show I would rather be lucky than good any day.

Oh yeah details.....I didn't even think to weigh him but his beard was 9 5/8" and spurs were 5/8", not the Boss Thunder Chicken but good enough for me!!! Black Widow 56" PSR 55#@28". Ramin arrows topped with a STOS 145 grn broadhead and a string traker (don't leave home without it)wrapped around the business end of the arrow.

I've killed many a turkey with my shotgun but this has been my achilles heel since I began. If you stick with it and take some free advice given on this website I guarantee you there is hope.

Hopefully I can get some quality time with Faith and use her a couple of days next week before I have to pass her along.

It hit in the front of his chest (quartering away) and ended up going towards his sternum, the best I could tell it didn't hit anything vital but he was covered in blood and couldn't fly. I honestly didn't think he was quatering away that hard or I would have given him a few more steps.

Scott, Glad it all worked out for ya bud..congrats!

There's a bunch of nothing but bone and breast meat in the lower front/front chest area. It can easily fool ya into thinking you made a good shot....

I've learned, and tell other as well....unless you are absolutely 100% sure you made a great hit, if the bird goes out of site, give it at least two hour...it's tuff to do sometimes...but if he's dead,he'll be there either way...
