It would have to be my Dad, rest his soul. He put that first stickbow in my hand when I was a little squirt. If I remember correctly it was a 60's Bear K Mag with gray glass. I could barely pull the string a few inches but that's all it took to hook me on archery forever. I'll never forget that moment with my idol..........IJ
Thats awesome right there John!   :archer:

Paul Schafer,
His skills with a bow, his woodsmanship, his physical strength, his humility. Top shelf individual for sure.

The one's who share their knowledge and experience, put a bow in a kids hand, leave the wild a little better than they found it, take time to help someone at the beginning, the mentors. These folks while not "idols" are the ones I hold in highest regard.

For hunting to have a future, we must invest ourselves in future hunters.

I have to agree with "vermonter13", could not have said it better.

Nicely put Dave, I would have to add the original Trad Gang, those responsible for this site, and all it does for traditional archery and the kids at St. Jude's.

Hey guys, one of the very best shooters ever is right here on this board and always willing to help fellas with their shooting problems-----. From what I understand he's one heck of a bowhunter as well as a top shelf tournement shooter.
Best of the best, Rod Jenkins.

1st and for most, my dad! Where would I be without him, thanks pops and I hope we have many more hunts together!!    A few others that I hold allot of respect for are the Wensel Brothers, Asbell, Fred Bear, Saxton Pope and Art Young. I've met Asbell at a few P&Y conventions while he talked with my dad when I was a pup yet. My dad also had the privilege of BSing with Barry Wensel talking about a hunt somewhere In Canada or Alaska, It was many years ago that they talked and this also was at a P&Y convention. I sure wish I was older at the time so I could of Interacted with those two.

All of them from the first one to make & draw a bow. But I remember more of Fred Bear growing up. When I got in to Archery Ishi, Mr. Hill, Ben Pearson & Our Own Ron LaClair. But Fred Eichler is someone that stick out now to me. I like his shows, His seem more real then the other ones that just care about P&Y scores. There is others too. But I have always had a love for Traditional Archery. From The American Indians to Robin Hood, and from deliverance to Lord of the rings.

My old Grandad used ta say,to Idolize any man, would only lead to dissapointment, because they are infact only human. Now to respect a man,is another thing.
Target archery is seeing how far away you can get and still hit the bull's eye. Bowhunting is seeing how close you can get and never miss your mark.

talk about learning from ur mistakes i never took the word idol into this deep of thought but now that i have it is a really strong word.but fred eichler is still the man
