2008 was my first year with traditional gear, witch was awesome I missed one big 12 point at 20 yards(ouch) but was fortunate to take 4 deer after that

This will be my first season ('09) devoted to traditional tackle on a more regular basis.

I'm no stranger to killing a few deer each season with A bow (21 in the last three seasons).....but you guys manner of taking has me intrigued.  I hunted 6-7 times in '08 with trad tackle and never took a shot.

I wish you all luck in '09.

Hey John;

I spent 10 years in the Bay St. Louis area.  The hardest whitetail hunting I have ever done.  I spent many, many hours between deer sightings.  It took me about 4 years to meet the right folks and get exposure to decent property.  A PBS member took me under his wing after I helped him look for a deer one evening.  Southern MS taught me what 'hunting hard' meant.

I was easy on them this year only  2 does, a buck in NJ that the coyotes ate over night an passed up 12 bucks at 15yds or less on my lease in MD  :banghead:

I took my first deer ever this season in georgia, a nice little button buck, only problem is I used a 3006, but for pretty much the rest of the season here in louisiana I used my longbow, all season on one property I had only seen a handful of deer, one was a nice 8 point, and they were all way out of range, then on the last night of the season I had three does and a yearling walk within range, but the landowner told me the population was doing very bad this year and asked me not to take any does, but it was still nice to watch them, I also missed a squirrel and a few rabbits, I'll be hoping to get my first turkey with a longbow this year

From one to a dozen, congrats to everyone who tasted success on game this year!  I'm grateful to have had a record year with four recurve kills.

There are SO many great memories, like actually having three arrows going E-X-A-C-T-L-Y where I wanted, some great bloodtrails from sharp broadheads, and seeing a lot of animals that were somehow savvy enough not to offer a shot.

It's strange, but two of my fondest memories of the season are being at full draw on deer inside of 20 yards, and letting down after deciding that the shot somehow was not quite "right."  Still feel like the decisions were correct, and I'm thankful I listened to myself!  Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you HAVE TO!

Congrats to all, whether you put meat in the freezer or NOT this year!

5 deer,and an  even dozen hogs. I am originally from Louisana and that is the toughest hunting ever, when I finally escaped La. I found all the hard hunting made me a very productive hunter elsewhere.
