lets hear about you charlie, what do you shoot, how long have you been doing it, and do you know walter kookesh,

akstumpjumper

I have got back into trad archery after a four year lull. I came from Pennsylvania four years ago and from Fred Bear's old stomping grounds. My wifes maiden name is "Bear". Before I left I sold all my outfits to a friend. Big mistake. I got home from the Public Safety academy helping with the new recruits and the next day my wife woke me and was holding a Bear Grizzly 55#@28".Guess she got tired of me whinning about it and took it upon herself to get me re-started.As for Walter Kookesh I do not know him that well but I do know Sen. Kookesh very well.

P.S. forgot to answer this. Was shooting and hunting traditional five years before I came to Alaska.

Patrick,

I've tightened my groups up a bit since then! Was shooting in the league, but decided that shooting for score while others were shooting just for fun was not for me!

See you at the range.
Hopefully I'll build a bow that doesn't break before they kick me out of there  (yea I was that guy)

They wouldn't do that, Patrick! I think everyone was facinated by your bow. Too bad it broke. I think you are the only one shooting who is ambitious enough to attempt making their own bow. Keep it up!

Muskoxman,
You part of the Muskox farm there in Palmer?
I use to live in Palmer.

Ben Pinney

Howdy, I'm also from Juneau.  Just moved here in June.  Been a long journey but glad to finally be here.

Hmm, Ben Pinney.  The name does SOUND familiar.

But your post suggests you may live in some place called "Port Land".....

akstumpjumper

Welcome Ben,
Where was the long journey from?

Charlie

Well, as I've updated my profile, it seems to have updated my last post as well.  Now I can say I'm FROM Alaska!  Born and raised in Wisconsin through college.  Then spent four years in Portland attending dental school.  Was always working my way toward Alaska and it's now great to be here.  Good thing is I've now changed my user name and password to something that I can remember so now I'll be able to chime in a little more often and tease Steve a bit too!  Steve, does this sound familiar, " GET ME OUT!"

So Ben.What for killin' stick(s) do you use?

Steve H.

Nope, doesn't sound familiar Ben Pinney.

Hey, wow, it says we can get a tour of the ox farm!  I think my wife would enjoy seeing the little guys that just popped out.

Akbowbender(Chuck),
Where did you get that nice blacktail at by the way. I'm might have to come hunt with you.  Past couple of heavy snows didn't help much here  with the population.

Found this thread searching the archives... Had to unearth it and chime in... I'm 21 years old, lived in Ketchikan the whole time. I'm a locksmith and I run a little archery shop on the side. I love to deer hunt, but I did draw an exceptional mt. goat tag for this fall. So, with a little luck I hope to introduce a nice late season billy to a 190 grizzly. I started shooting a cheapo longbow when I was about 5, and although I went to the wheelie bows for a few frustrating years, now I'm back shooting the longbow full time. I hope to get my act together soon and start building some more lam bows. I want to call them "Stika Blacktail Longbows". Ideally I will build them out of real Alaskan lumber, but I still have a LOT to learn.

I'm in Wrangell. I missed this thread on the first time around; glad you resurrected it.
I'm glad to hear about an archery shop in Ketchikan, especially if for traditional gear. Do you have a website? I get down there now and then, will have to look you up.
I would love to see some bows made from local wood. What woods do you plan to use?
