Well if I am paying a guide it is MY elk not his I would be shooting at.  ;)

Refer them to the first Ashby reports where the 80lb compound was used vs. the longbow. They are wrapped up in speed and think anything not pushing 300 fps is not effective. They are trying to make up for lack of arrow mass by increasing velocity which as we know is not a fair trade.

This deer season I helped track 2 wounded deer shot with a +300fps machine and neither animal was recovered.

I dont say too much. I just show. I've hunted when everyone else in the camp had wheelie bows and all I had was my old Bear Kodiak Magnum. I out shot and out hunted ALL of them.

The best teaching is by example (as others have said here)      :archer:

Pac , dont let the guy bother you, I know plenty of compound shooters that wound deer, most shooting to far & some just bad shots. Its all the man behind the bow. Mike
Exactly bud, it aint the bow its the Indian.

Are there trad shooters that wound game...sure. But the same goes for compounders, gunners, atlatl  hunters and so on.

All the compound shooters I have met and hunted with have taken shots that are to far (40+ yds) and wounded game. I try and remind'em the object of the hunt is how close you can get. Save the trick shooting for exhibitions and show me your hunting skills!

That same guy that said that is probably shooting and arrow around 380 grains with an expandable broad head.  Yet he says he is worried about lethality.

Bill Tell is right about that. That's just about what a friend of mine shoots and he lost two deer last fall. He did eventually find one but it was 4 days later. Shot from too far(40yds) and too far back. Wasn't able to keep any of the meat because of the gut shot and hot weather we had up here during archery season.
I showed him what my set up was. 50# Herters recurve, POC arrows and 145gr  Eclipse. He kinda smiled and asked how fast it shot. I just told him that it hit's where I point it at in a timely manner alot of the time!
