Grizzly with aluminum adapter?

Do any of you Grizzly shooters use the aluminum adapters? I seem to recall that Dr. Ashby suggested against them. I currently have 100 grain brass inserts in my shafts and don't want to go any higher than 125 grain heads. I'm currently shooting #45 with a 500 grain arrow and 225 grains up front and would like to keep it like that, just looking for a little better penetration on hogs and tougher animals. Thanks for any and all help.

There's no problem using aluminium adaptors with Grizzly broadheads. I used to use the 160 grain Grizzly with a 42 grain aluminium adaptor. Here's a photo of a donkey vertebra that one met:

I tried an aluminum adapter once.  Shot a 125gr grizzly (with aluminum adapter) into my rhinehart, snapped the adapter and broke my Beman Axis arrow.  I can post pics later, I was able to get the grizzly out with needle nose pliers.  I will never use an aluminum adapter again.

Remember, these aluminium adaptors were once the norm. There must be tens of thousands of animals that they were involved in killing.

I have shot a couple of whitetails with, grizzly 160's with the long solid  aluminum adapters and had no problems.  I started using this combination before steel adapters where commanly available.

I see they are making the al adapters hollow now so maybe this is why there is a problem?

I agree with Ben, used them up until I read Doc. Ashby's  reports.

The reason I went to 100 & 125 steel insert is because he list the integrate of the arrow as #1 importance, in other words your arrow is only as good as your weakest part of your arrow.

I also, now foot my arrow over the insert or outsert

There are lots of combination you could use to achive the same wight and strengthen your arrow

you could use 100gn. steel broadhead insert with aluminum insert in the arrow with a footed shaft over it adding a lot more strength to your set up

There is a big difference between the aluminum adapters that were sold for decades and the Mangus 7075 aluminum adapters, but they still are not as strong as steel.

I believe Ben's is an example of a Magnus 42 gr long at work.

If I were in your shoes I'd change out your inserts for either the brass insert/adapters or the original inserts and put your broadhead on a steel adapter.  Either would keep you at the weight you want and be much stronger.  The 100 grain inserts you have are great but not so much if you're compromising the strength of your broadhead to use them.
