i have a hickory self bow 45#@28" draw quietes bow i ever shot was made by one william santolla.of nc he really made a nice bow i use a b-50 string and beaver hair silencers . been to some archery tournements with some people who shoot compounds . their reaction is priceless. " can you shoot that again,i didnt't hear it"

The quietest was definitely a longbow, but I don't remember which one; all the D-shaped longbows are pretty quiet.  I do remember the loudest bow, though: it was a recurve that exploded when the nock broke at the shot!

I'll add that the quietest bow that I have seen shot is no longer in production. It was Rocky Mtn Archery's Anaszi Bamboo Longbow that my hunting partner "Bamboo" shoots. Quieter than any recurve or longbow I've seen or shot.

Reviewing this thread evokes an observation similar to that made by Garrison Keillor regarding the kids at Lake Wobegone who were "all" above average.  Seems like almost all of the bows ever made are the quietest ever.
