Hey there, I got tired of using a lighter or wax candle when gluing on fieldpoints and broadheads, but 15 bucks for an alcohol burner is too much. Here is how i made my own.

Materials
-one baby food jar (cleaned out of course)
-one length of cotton from a cotton mop
-denatured alcohol

Tool
-drill
-3/16" drill bit
-thumb tack

drill a 3/16" hole in center of babyfood jar lid. use the thumb tack and pop 4 holes around the main hole about 1/8" from it. fold the cotton rope in half and feed the folded end through the hole. pull about a 1/4" through. fill the jar about 3/4 full of denatured alcohol. before you light it for the first time make sure that the alcohol has wicked up to the exposed wick. now light the wick and get to work.

Thats simple enough, I think I'll have to throw one together! Thanks for the know-how.

This is great!

If you leave it sitting around incovered, will the alchol evaporate?

Do-it yourself is always best. Alas, I use my wife's kitchen propane range ... then, when threatened with no more dinners, use a razor blade to scrape off all the dripped hot glue, while she calls me ...   :knothead:

That is a great idea, thanks for sharing.. I've always used a small propane torch for points, ect.
In twenty years of making my own arrows I have burned through only two of the tall tanks... They seem to last for years and years..

Thanks guys, my main motivation behind a lot of things i do is because i am so cheap. I haven't used mine long enough to know if the alcohol will evaporate, but if it does i think it would be very slow. you could always keep another intact jar and pour the leftover alcohol into that when you are done. Of course you don't want to throw this in your archery box since the top is not sealed.

I just used it tonight to get some blunts ready to go, and it worked great.

thanks,Dan

That is slick.  I use the brass off of a 12ga shell wihthe plastic cut oof even with the top of the brass.  I fill it with alcohol and it lights right up.

I like your design alot.

I use the propane stove top too mostly because  I don't want to abuse alcohol.  :-)

Nice design.  Thanks for sharing.  Merry Christmas.
