I bought this bow from an auction site. It was suppose to be a gift as someone's very first trad bow.  It has a damaged shelf (shown).  It is dinged up but that isn't the problem.  The problem is the damaged shelf. I think it needs to be repaired before it is given as a gift.

Last night I bought a different bow from TG's classifieds to give instead of this bow.  Would have done that first but until last night there wasn't anything that I could readily afford.

Other than the shelf the bow shoots and feels great.  I would like to repair it if possible and save it for a future gift as a first bow.

Can it be fixed by me?  If so what can I do to repair it?

If there are any small cracks I would fill them with super glue first. Then I would just take a file to that shelf a round it off and the sand it smooth add a little Birchwood & Casey gunstock tru oil over the area and shoot it.bowdoc

Build it up with some plastic wood, file , sand, finish and your done.

I would just radius it out and touch up the area. The arrow should actually make contact directly above the deepest part of the throat, you really don't need the full shelf for the bow to shoot  fine.

I just about have the shelf straightened out.  i went ahead and rounded it off and it looks pretty good.  Where do you get the B & C gunstock oil from?  Will I have to order it?

I shot a few miutes ago and it is a sweet shooting bow.

I put it on a bow scale to see what this 45 lb bow was actually pulling at 28".  It came out to 35 lbs.  Not leagal to hunt deer with here in AR but as a first bow to learn with it is going to be a good one.  I bet it would be a fun small game bow to boot.

I bought mine at a place out here called Bi-Mart, but my guess is a Walmart or a sporting goods store that sells guns would have it.
