Feather Rest Help please !

I'm working on refinishing my old 65' Herters and it has a very flat shelf.
It originally had an insert brush rest, but I never cared much for that.

I've researched the feather rest here a bit and have seen a few and would like to craft my own.

Does the rest have to slant towards the riser? how would a guy cut it like that ?      

I have both RW and LW feathers and scraps so would that make a difference for riser slope
?
Any hints and help with the profile would be well appreciated. I'm sure the first try may not be optimal, but I sure like the looks of this classic style rest.

Also, in that research I read mention of toothbrush rests.... how is this accomplished ?

Gordy: We used to make them when I was a kid. We glued the feathers right on the riser but there are some really good double sided tapes now that makes making them a lot easier. We used the same wing feathers for a single rest...don't mix them...it just makes it more difficult to do. Trim the feathers with scissors and in doing so you can make the feathers that are closest to the sight window somewhat lower so the arrow lays into it better because it will be at an angle. Just make sure the quills are pointing in the direction that the arrow is pointing or you will have a mess on your hands and short lived rests.  You can also make a more durable rest using the end  of a soft tooth brush. Using the tooth brush you have a rest that works the same but is weather proof.

the feather rests i made were glued with barge cement to thin leather with the feathers facing "backward" so they would "collapse" upon release allowing the shaft to travel over the rest better.

3 rivers still sells them (i think) along with brush rests.
