I have six brandnew muzzy's,, I think they would be fine with a heavy arrow but I was curious on how many folks use these types of heads almost exclusively. I also have six new 125 grain stingers which look like a fantastic head and I have some 140 magnusII two blades and some snuffer 160's. So that being said I love cut on contact heads and have been using them exclusively,,, Just wanting to see whats happening out there in tradland,,JB

I use whatever 2 blade is on sale for ducks through sitka black tail. Caribou through brown bear I'll be switching to Alaska bow hunting supply's samurai. Like the silver flame's these are hunting knives that screw into your arrow. The samurai hits every one of Dr. Ashby's points for the perfect broad head.(single bevel greater than 50RW hardness, tanto tip, long cutting edge ect.)
Just this Alaskan's opinion

I've shot alot of heads over the years and even played a major role in introducing one to the market.
I gotta tell you, I'm lovin' the 220 Phantoms from Muzzy. With the bleeders they're like a big 4 blade and I've been blasting thru everythiing I shoot at again, even with the 55# bows.
I don't know what else you caould ask for from a broadhead.

I guess I should say,,,, these muzzy BH's I have are the three blade with that chisel point tip. I'm sorry for the confusion,, I think those muzzy phantoms look sweet,, Never fired one but I'm sure they are sharp,,JB

I`ve killed several deer and hogs with 125 Muzzy 3 blades. They did a fine job. But like the Big Redneck ,of the two I prefer the phantoms.RC

Not in tradland, but muzzy 3-blades (the older ones, not the new MX things, or whatever they're called) are what I had finally settled on with my compound rig.  Good all around head. Stronger blade designe IMO than thunderheads at the same price. Blades are easier to sharpen as well. Out-of-the-box I think thunderheads are sharper though.

IF you do use them make it a "point" to sharpen the trocar tip! It's very easy and you can essentially make it a cut on contact with two different sets of blades.  I do it to all of mine.  Takes maybe a minute a piece to get the tips shaving sharp.

Never lost blades with the muzzies, bent up a ferrule once on an old oak tree though...never sent them through a shoulder blade either though.

I've shot a a few pigs with the 3 Blade, trocar-tip Muzzy's...53# bow and 2018 arrow.  Penetration was fine (exit wound).  I didn't get much blood but that has been the case with most pigs I've shot regardless of the broadhead.

Years ago I shot nothing but compound and found that it was my head of choice. Broke alot of bone with'em,, oposite shoulders from quatering shots and one time I broke both shoulders on a buck at 20 yrds,, he ran on his chest for about 50 or so yards,, Craziest thing I've ever seen. I just haven't tried them out of my stic bows yet. What are ya doing to sharpen them points,,are u drawing them across a stone??

Shot a bunch of critters last year with the four blade model.  145gr with the trocar tip, and yes I just sharpened the tip with a flat stone.  I only shoot 55@25" and I got a bunch of complete pass thoughs last year.  Also shot a whitetail with the 3 blade model trocar tip, complete pass through.

Check out the damage on this one.  Complete pass through and this Axis spike only went about 30 yards.

I've killed 2 bucks with my traditional bows and both were 3 blade Thunderhead broadheads. I really want to go to single bevel heads though ...

Soilarch

To sharpen the tips just treat them like a 3 blade broadhead.

Drag 'em backwards across a stone or automotive sandpaper (I use 600grit and 2000grit, then strop on plain ol computer paper.)  Nice thing about it is you can see exactly what you're doing since the tip is black and then goes shiny on the areas you've sharpened.  You really can get them to shave hair.  Not well mind you, but that might be the product of any 3/8" blade sharpened at 30 degrees.

Sadly it may become necessary.  Either here or somewhere else online I've seen pictures of some Muzzyz with horrendous finishes on them.  Maybe a bad run, maybe new and lower QC?

I have used the 125 grain Thunderhead for the past 2 years on a 58# longbow with excellent results. 5 complete passthrus and 2 that left with the arrow still in them, althogh the broadhead was sticking out the other side. Excellent blood trails too.

Those stingers that you have are my fav. They have taken several animals for me and have smoked right through as long as i do my part.

I have been shooting the 125gr 4bl Muzzy's for many years with my recurves and they work just fine, in fact I prefer them as the blades are so easy to change out and don't have to worry about stopping to resharpen heads as I am hunting.  With heavy carbon arrows and my mid 50's# bows, penetration is no problem on the many animals I have taken with them, elk, deer, bear and hogs.  I always sharpen the trocar tip on a diamond stone and can get them very sharp.  Sharpen just like a 3bl broadhead and work great.  Mark
They'll be no quitters till we bag us some critters!

BigCnyn

I shoot the standard 125's, found that there is nothing better, lots worse..
Easy to use, no worries on sharpness. .

Whitebuffalo,

I ran into some tuning problems right before elk season and so I needed something quick.  Ordered several packages of the 220 gr Phantom SS' thinking that they would be a quick fix because I simply didn't have time to sharpen up a new set of BH's.  As far as solving my problems they did the trick.  But I was extremely disappointed in their sharpness....or should I say...lack of sharpness.  Out of the package they are very dull!!!  Not gonna spend my money on those again.

I have used the 3 bld. Muzzy 125 gr. on javelina and turkeys.  We usually get quite a few shots and I can quickly put in some new blades and keep hunting.
Now for BIG game, I usually use a good 2 bld.head.  One that I can sharpen ( Zwikey Eskimo or Eclipse).  However one year I did shoot a cow elk with the 3 bld muzzy and blew all the way through her.

Jeff Roberts

I shot the four blade 125 gr for years and killed alot of deer and hogs. I did sharpen the trocar tip which made it cut on impact. I now shoot the 125 Phantoms and they blow thru animals and leave a great blood trail for me. I sharpen any broadhead I get and don't trust any out of the package.

Never tried the Muzzy chisel points but did use some of that were WalMart spin offs. They blew up on impact and I never found my deer. That was 5 or 6 years ago and I never tried those again,LOL! Was probably more being a cheaply made head than the fact that it was a 3 blade chisel point. Muzzy's are pretty durable.
Just one more step please!
