Yew longbow arrived...Pics

I recieved my Yew yesterday. I love it. The bow is made of Pacific Yew. It has rattlesnake skins on the front. I traded 2 dozen shafts and some glue on Broadheads for the bow, so I wasnt sure what kind of shape it would be in. There isnt a scratch on it. It was put together with a z looking pattern.I know nothinng about this part but it stays together when I draw it. The only problem is I think its too stout for me. Its 68"  56# @ 28". I'm going to shoot it and see if I can work into it. Heres some pics...

Very nice looking bow. You may find that a longer bow like that is very smooth and does not feel as heavy in draw as a shorter bow. Sounds like you got a heck of a deal.

Any suggestions for a grip? I dont want anything that is adhesive. I was going to try leather or suede that I can lace on but dont know the first thing about doing it. Also,Do I need some sort of side plate?..Thanks

if that beauty is to stout I'll trade with ya. though the lenght will help WOW what a dandy.
 what i have done is sew on some deer hide  so it
stays tight and use it as a side plate and handle then shot off my knuckle.

Blind one, Here's a thought, get a golf glove fer holdin your bow and shoot off your knukle. No shelf needed. no grip needed. That bow begs for wood arrows.  Good luck

That's a beauty. For a grip, you might wrap leather lace or jute twine around the grip area.  

A shelf isn't really necessary, but you could build one up with leather or horn.

I did the grip with suede leather lace. I tried to use a piece of leather but couldnt get it straight so I just wrapped it. Doesnt feel too bad. Thanks for the suggestions guys...Roy

Nice! and your suade leather lace wrap seems to compliment it - good choice - keep it simple and clean. Just be very careful you don't hurt a shoulder or elbo trying to "work into it", before you decide if it's too heavy for you.

Shawn, I bought it that way. Tandy Leather has the lace in several different colors.

Very nice bow and handle wrap.  I used leather lace for Ol' Buck, my old lemonwood, and it really feels comfortable to the hand.
