Hey everyone! I have been lurking around again and was wondering how many trad gangers are out chasing that 2nd season elk or deer? I am heading out to Melrose this weekend to hopefully score a nice deer. I was out at rattlesnake ridge and saw some deer but nothing I would have liked to shoot. I did see some elk up there to. The hunting here is a lot different than alaska. So.... how many trad gangers do we have chasing thier last chance deeer?

Hi Frank. I have been out a couple of times. There are a few bucks still responding to rattling. There has been some real beauties killed this year. South of the Willamette Valley, down your way, there is a good gene pool. I'm not familiar with the Melrose unit or I would give you some info. on it. This has been a very unusual year with no mountain snows. If we get the usual snow up high it can drive the mountain bucks down. I like to hunt the snow line then.

I wish we had a late season deer or elk archery hunt! Its all over with the end of Sept. for all species here.

I'd chase'em if I could find 'em .Went out today it was so warm I hunted in my long sleeve t-shirt. Going to keep trying though

If you are seeing critters you are doing better than I am, havent seen a deer in the late season, starting to think they are mostly nocturnal...PR

Windtalker, I'm with you. Not seeing much of anything. I'll be out way early tomorrow morning hunting a buddies property. Still hoping to get my first ever. Good luck to all that still have opportunities to hunt.

Before moving to Wa. I lived in Or. for 40 years and the late blacktail archery hunt was my favorite hunt.
Sure do miss it.

Good luck to you all.

I was able to score on a doe this weekend. I am thankfull for her! It was the last day I was able to hunt and we ran up past eugene and went to the oakridge area. I feel lucky and fortunate the way it all happened. Couldent have happened any better. She is hanging up right now and her backstraps are for dinner tonight. I was not able to post pictures as it was a spur of the moment hunt and when i went to grab my camera.... it wasnt there. Maybee ill get some pics of the bbq  :p

I drove over the Cascades heading to eastern Oregon Friday night. Almost killed a monster blacktail buck...with my truck! I think I missed him by a foot. He just stood there in the highway and didn't move as I came around a curve at 50mph. Big 4X4, high and wide, neck still swollen.

I hunted for three days and saw 3 bucks the Mon - Wed before Thanksgiving. I haven't found time to get out since. I think my season may be over but I might get out for one last day. We will have to see.
