Steve I bought mine from a supplier in PA. I will get the name for ya here in a minuet.

 It was Allegheney Archers.

Dr. Ed Ashby

Since I gave Ray the one he has, I'll pass the details along. CAUTION: There are other makers of this type of file. I tried several different ones before finding this one. It works the best of all the ones I tried.

Here it is in the package.

It works best when mounted on a block of wood, like this. It's double sided, so if one side ever wears out, just turn it over.

The next two photos are closeups of the package details.

I just googled "nicholson model 50-908 #20189" and got a bunch of hits from places selling it.  This link is just the first to pop up, I know nothing about any of them.

Dave, I bought some more of these for folks last time I was in Georgia. Went to a metal workers supply store. They didn't have them in stock, and had to order them in, but there were there in less than a week. Anyone who handles Nicholson files should be able to order them for you.

The ones before that; the bunch that Ray's came from; I just walked into an oil field supply store in Midland, Texas and they had them in stock in plentiful numbers.

And there's always the internet. I haven't looked, but I'm pretty sure you could find them available from some of the metal working tool suppliers there.

Looks like Mike found them on the web! They are pricy, about $60.00 each, but well worth it. There are cheaper ones of other makes, but all others I tried were a waste of money.

I just found them for 48 bucks...

plus shipping of 4.50

I have been working with a mfr of these to buy them in bulk and maybe sell em for less than this..frankly, these are milled files, but that is a little too pricy for me...though I must admit, Doc you gave me that one two plus years ago and its not even close to being worn out on the first side, so its not that expensive considering that..I will keep you posted if I can get em cheaper.

Thanks Ray,

Is this a Nicholson or a Vixen brand, I would like the one that is going to last the longest.

The Doc. said he's tried other brands that where a wast of money.

Rangeball

The link I posted has them for $28.96  :)

Rangeball, Just ordered that one 39.52 shipped to Cali. 10.56 for shipping

The pic they have threw me off, but all the numbers are right.

Thanks.

I didn't really look around for the best price when I bought them. I was in a rush for those I bought last year, and they came in at right around $60.00 each, all up. As long as you look for that exact same model Nicholson Curved Tooth File you won't go wrong, so get it as inexpensive as you can! None of the other brands I tried stripped the metal away anywhere near as well as the Nicholson did; and some didn't work much better than a regular file.

Anytime, glad to help.

I may need to order one.  I'm trying to sharpen some outback supreme 160s on the broadhead pro sb sharpener.  Mercy, I'm about to cry uncle... blades are MUCH harder than the woodsmans I finally got shaving with the double bevel broadhead pro.

Rangeball, that link led to a file, but the photo doesn't match up with the type of file that is listed...wierd...I kept looking at it..Its the right model number for sure, so they must just have used the incorrect photo.

Strange.

I have been using a 12" mill bastard with OK results, just wheres your hands out.

I bought a wet grinder and the Grizzly 190 ate the wheel way to quick.

I love the Grizzly 160 & 190, I've had great results with them.

This pic shows how good they work: 55lb Habu, Grizzly 160, aluminum insert, 530gr. total arrow.

I now have bumped it up according to the Doc's recipe 58lb Habu, Grizzly 190, 125gr steel insert with footed aluminum over carbon, 4x3" feathers 650 grain total arrow with a high EFOC, Jumps right through stuff.
