I've been trying to find the post about a good pair of socks. Does anyone remember that one?
Here is the wool I have so far. I want a good pair of wool socks to round it out. Mybe some Merino underclothes from 3RA.

Bona,

I was replying to another post and somehow it put the response here. Sorry about that. I removed the text but could not figure out how to delete the whole thing!

Good luck in your search for sock Nirvana!

i second the smart wool socks. best ones you will ever buy! i use them for everything from cruising timber and trapping to waterfowl hunting.

Killdeer

Smartwool, and Wigwam merino sox, and the ones you buy at Wally World that come with liners ...if you can luck out and find them smaller than a men's size 9.

Liner sox are nice! I can never keep them, though, because Mockingbird does most of the laundry and he feeds the Sock Gods.

sweet old bill

I just purchased 6 new pair of merino wool blends in the winter weight and had a pair on this weekend with the walking boots and they sure seem to fit the bill. I also think the blend make this type of sock last a lot longer than just the older type of wool sock.

I use the Smartwool also, but check out another site "archery talk", go to "manufacturer announcement and press releases", and do a search on "socks". Open the "no smell, no fungus Covert Thread socks". These have a wool blend, and silver aniti-bacterial yarn. Very nice also.

I like the mediun weight Wigwam merino wool socks for hiking and when it is not super cold out.  I use some Wigwam heavy weight wool boot socks with sock liners for when it gets cold.

I have always used Coolmax under liners with just plain old Cabelas wool socks.  If you don't use a liner then I think the best in the world is any Alpaca wool sock.

THORLOS, the military did a lot of testing on socks and found that synthetics gave less and smaller blisters than natural fibers. Wool is Ok, but only when combined with the right natural fibers. I have yet to wear out a pair of thorlos and I have some that have been worn in the range of 600 times. AND they are made in the USA!

Kevin Bahr

I bet Steve's ONLY pair of socks has more miles on em than that, Rick.  HA!

Rick McGowan

Kevin, more miles than that? They probably have more miles on them then that, since they were washed last!

Fletcher

I started wearing Thorlos many years ago when I was running on a regular basis.  I now have them in several styles and weights and they are favorites.  The Smartwools are also very nice and maybe warmer due to a higher wool content.
