Thank you Brian for your help in our dire situation.

We were on our weeks holiday/Elk hunting trip last week and things started off bad and only got worse as the days went by.
My planed place to hunt was taken over by an Oil drilling rig,so we moved up the road a couple miles and set up. This was not to terrible bad,but the Elk grounds I was familiar with were either clear cut, or were being drilled. And it rained for the first 3 days.

So we fing new country, and see a lot of deer, but I want elk so the deer get a pass. I do manage to have a Spike bull nearly run me down coming into the calls, so there is some good in the trip.

The Elk are scarse and not answering or calling so after thinking about this and the huge  SOW with 3 CUBS hanging around camp we decide to relocate.

Up till now  things are not to bad, we make it out to the gravel road and a construction nightmare.

About 2 dozen scrapers, a few graders, packers, and a dozen Cats from a D8's to D11's and widnening the road. Trucks are hauling Logs, Gravel and there are Super B's Loaded making ruts in the clay bed that are a foot deep and no where to turn.
We have to stop in the ruts and the nightmare begins. Bottomed out stem to stern, and the Trailer with the Quad is like a plough behind the camper.

The tires hook up in the wet clay and will not turn, so I go for 4 Low and then there is a  BANG. Not good, A cat drags us out and off to the side, things look bad. Then a grader haules us up to an aproach and leaves us there, the spot is 9 miles off the highway.

When I open the read diff about a half pound of broken gear teeth fall out.
Thanks for Cell phones I am able to have my daughter line up a new used rear end gut package and then the call goes in to Brian Rice. The next morning he takes the time to pick up the parts and needed tools, oil etc and drive 3 hours to deliver them. He arrives in time to say hi , drop off things and run back to do his church service . THANK YOU BRIAN.

The repair/rebuild was in the dirt / mud as cats and buggys flew by , keeping dust out was a loosing battle but by dark I was mobile.
The rear end had been apart before and the previous genius put a pin in where a bolt with a pin attached belonged and this was the key to being able to remove the old parts. { I hope I never meet him!} In Desperation I had to take a speaker out of the truck and put a piece of coat hanger on it to be a magnet to remove the pin that should have been part of the bolt..
Brian kept calling to make sure we were not stuck or in need. His concern was  a big boost to both of us.
We went in further and hunted the next day and saw nothing, and no bugles so it was time to head out and closer to civilization. A quick check and the Pinion shaft was loose, so I tighten it up a bit and top off the Diff oil and head out.
The Differentil is getting hot so with frequent stops and adjusting tension we make it out past the construction and try another hunting spot. More sign here but it was hard to hunt with the worry of being 2 hours away from home with a sick truck.
Today we left for home early and made 2 more tension adjustments as we limped home.  The Mental strain from this trip left us drained, so I took the evening hunt off to unwind.

The hunting could have been better and the weather dryer, but now that we are home it is not to bad to look back on. I know this years anual hunt will be one to remember. I am glad I let the deer walk now , as they would have spoiled before we could have taken them to cool.

Tomorow morning I think I will look for some moose or a nice doe and take a lazy day in the woods .
The season can only get better, and I have to plan a thank you trip for  Brian at his convenience.

Pete, I hope things will improve for you as the season goes on, I didn't know the Carbon dude was still around he was talking about moving a while ago.

Sounds like a nice fellow.  I for one would like to meet him.  LOL!!

Glad to help buddy. You would have done the same for me. Hearing Pat have to say she was glad to see me for once was worth it all!! LOL!!    I only wish I would have had the time to stay and help you fix it.  As it was I made it to my Wednesday night church service with 5 minutes to spare after breaking every speed limit in Alberta by enough to go to jail, FOREVER!!!!  LOL!!  Did I bring you a big enough jug of French Vanilla Creamer, or is that the real reason you came home a day early?
