Take a look at this target! Figured it would do me good to shoot at a lifesized, although flat target.
Scaled an IBEF elk pic 1/4" = 6" (I think) onto some scrap foam and added 5 or 6 pcs behind the kill zone. Got no cost and about an hour in him!

Looks like hes been shotgunned, but I've been shooting mostly 35-40 yds, waaay more than I'd shoot in the timber!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Kennym.... what thickness?   2" or multiple layers?   If multiple, what kind of penetration are you getting?  I'm renewing all my range targets this week and looking at maybe putting up 8" of foam backing... mind you, thinking backing rather than target, but your approach would make a neat target on the front... a separate cutout layer.   My backstops are 6x8 ft. for the 10 and 30 yard targets and 4x4 for the closer ones.

Dick,
Its 1" foam, with 5 xtra pcs behind the kill zone. I get about 20" penetration (52#,612 grn arrow )unless I miss the kill zone backer, then it blows way on thru.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Nice looking target.  I use the 2" to make aerial disks.  If interested the 150 is around $18 and the 250 is closer to $25 for a 4X8 sheet.

tradtusker

thats a cool target beats shooting a dot all the time!

I had been thinking of doing something similar with, but celotex sheathing in layers, using full 4x8 sheets with a deer silhouette traced on it.

how about a little brown spray paint?
