If you sharpen the picture to give edges that aren't movement blur then fill in the solid shape, this is what you get. The part on the back that folks are thinking is a tail is where the hind leg was at the beginning of the exposure IMO. Could do much better with the original photo. But this is what I get from the small one.

I kind of like the Capaberra idea myself.

Now it's a black bear. Naw, I still think it is a small deer.

My first thought was a Yote.   But the legs look a little long.    What was in the picture before and after the photo in question was taken?

Looks like a deer shaking off the black flies and skeeters. Shawn

I think it is a pet of a "bigfoot" family.  They keep them around to alert them of danger. It is probably been cross bread to have a good nose and hearing.
Just my 2 cents.

i can email anyone that would like to see the original, bigger picture as there is more detail.

No doubt, 3 year old male coyote, 65.5 lbs. split right ear, bad teeth, missing left eye, answers to lucky!

I just e-mailed you back a work up of the mystery critter in the dark Ken.

That's a little fox. To small to be a coyote. Wishful thinkers...

It looks like the tail is down between the legs. I'll have to go with coyote.

Wow that second doe is hurting. I think that's her now in the dark pic now that I have the full size. In the small pic it almost looked like a long tail on it, but in the bigger pic you can see the tail is actually a downed tree.

Checked it out, no doubt in my mind,it's a Coyote...the size, outline, tail, and "cape" marking on the shoulder. I'll stick by my first description of the pic......COYOTE   ;)

It's a yote. You can tell by it's back legs..Tucker

tarponnut

That is an immature skunkape. They walk on all fours until mature and then walk upright and then,of course, take to the trees.
