If your referring to the wendsal woodsman I have had great performance with the 150gr screw in as many here on this sight will tell the same story.I haven't tried them since they came out with the new precision edge wich should make them easier to sharpen.They just recently came available.I use them with 100 gr insert in an axis arrow making 250gr up front.They have great penetration and hold an edge.

Woodsmans are one of the most popular heads among today's trad hunters. They will do the job. Run a search and you will find many threads and at least one sharpening tutorial.

Hawgslayer, Woodsman bh. are a great choice. I have had great luck with their performance on hogs,deer,b. bear and a wide variety of african plains game with out one failure. You will not be disappointed. Good Hunting, Bill Langer

I began using the Woodsman a couple years ago. Flies great and to me wasn't all that tough to sharpen. As far as penetration on deer, I only have one buck so far with this head but the penetration was excellent. The buck piled up within 40yds of where I hit it and was DOA.

one of the best 3 blade heads around i reckon! had good results with them in Africa this year.

fly great glued on wood arrows.no noise in flight and fly like field points.

I love the head but cannot get it to stop whistling in flight. Thing whistles dixie to the target!!! LOL Wont use it in the woods for that reason.

I think they are easy to sharpen though. I had heard alot about being hard to sharpen but did not encounter any worries, and I am not the best BHd sharpener, so if I can get em shaving sharp most anyone can.

Gonna buy another pack for it is over with and see if they whistle as well.

I'd use a woodsman on my PoC shafts but they don't come in the weight I like to use.

You can drop small worm fishing weights in the front to get them up.

Even better is some lead shotgun shot, especially the really small stuff, like #9, if you happen to have some just lying around.

On the subject of Woodsmans, who leaves them pointed, and who files them down to a pyramidal point? This is the first year I'm going to try them, and I've filed down 4 and left 2 'pointy'.

Any thoughts?

I have a 6 pack of screwins I just opened this weekend. I'm a bit disappointed to be honest.

The grind on all of 'em is uneven (the edge is not a straight line) One is off by nearly 1/16"!! I'd need to remove ALOT of metal on that one to get it sharpening the way it's supposed to! Two of 'em are mounted crooked on he adapter too.

I know they've been good heads in the past, but if these are any indication of the current quality control...

Jeremy, I'd contact 3Rivers and let them know. The Woodsmans are their head now and they need to know that there are mfg issues. I used them for a few years and thing they're a very good head. Wouldn't hesitate to shoot them again.

Dittybop, after rolling a couple of the needle points, I pyramid mine a bit.

never shot the head but I have some poor 3 river experience too. do not know whats going on over there?!?

You may have gotten an old pack of heads, before the retooling. Contact them and see what they say. I just picked up two new packs and the retooled, new grind heads I got are nice.

Less work to get them sharp and the blade edges are symm. I've had better luck with the woodsman than any head period.

Jeremy, That is the same way that mine came from 3Rivers. I took a lot of material and weight off of them to get them sharp. I have checked them to make sure that they are straight, but they still make a hissing sound in flight. I would still like to hunt with them. Any ideas on how to get them quiet?
