That sux dude...sorry for your loss!
The doom of man...that he forgets!

Good news is that JD Emerson of Ancient Spirits said to send him the bow pronto, and he will tell me whether it can be saved. Sure hope it can, as it was such a lovely bow to look at and shoot.

Dillon

Hey good thing it was not a better bow
but it is better of a bow than iv ever even touched so yea that sucks

That's a bummer. Looked like a nice bow.

Guess I'm a little confused as to why the riser would break before the limbs? It seems that the limbs would break at the fade outs before any damage occured to the riser. Was the riser laminated?

sooo sorry...hope you get it taken care of.      ;)

That ain't good. Glad you were not injured to boot. That is why I have several bows ready to hunt. I'll be sure to show your pictures to my wife and talk to her about how awful it would be to be in that situation, just before hunting season, without a backup bow ready to go. Can't ever have to many gooduns.  :jumper:

Lefty

Hope you get it taken care of and glad you were not injured.  If it was a new bow, hopefully you can get it replaced or repaired.  A well made bow should be able to withstand a dry fire, although not a steady diet of them.  Good luck!

brackshooter

Oregon Bill-
Dont know if you planned on hunting the season here in oregon (opens in 10 days), but if you are without a bow, let me know, I may have one you can use.  Sorry about your bow.

buckeyebowhunter

Oregon Bill-
Keep us updated on your bow as to whether or not it can be saved. I know a few guys who also own ancient spirits bows, and a former bowyer of ancient spirits is making me a recurve right now.

Oregon Bill

Brackshooter: That's a very kind offer, but JD has the bow in hand and says the limbs are salvageable. He's working on a riser for me as we speak.

buckeyebowhunter

Bill is JD gonna charge you for the riser if so I wouldnt pay more than half price, cuz iv known guys who have dry fired by accident and thier bow was fine, your riser wood could have had a weak spot. Just my 2 cents.  ;)

heydeerman

Bows are made of wood. Wood can break. A dry fire can severely damage a bow. Most times the damage is unseen and will show up later. All bowyers who have a warrantee will not cover a dryfire. There is no way for a bowyer to know what is in the wood he is using so there could have been a weak spot. In fact all bows have a weak spot and if you are brave enough to dry fire (on purpose) you will find it. buckeybowhunter your comment struck a nerve in me. JD doesnt owe him anything.(Oregon Bill dont mistake this for no sympathy man. I have had 2 bows blow up. One I dryfired the other just blew up) I would not be surprised if JD cuts him a deal of some kind. If it was me I'd be glad to pay full price for a new riser to get my bow back.

redant 60/65

I'm with heydeerman, almost always dry fires damage the the limbs or the limb tips.I think it was in the wood of the riser, and I'll bet the bowyer will replace it free of charge. My 2 cents.  :banghead:

Yep...the limbs look salvageable...obviously not the riser! :0(

and yeah, JD owes him nothing. Dry fires can happen...and...you can get away with them sometimes, but in the long run, a wood bow will NOT benefit from a dry fire! :0) I have had several drys on one of my bows, all went well... Then the other day a dry resulted in the riser coming apart... sucked...but didn't surprise me.

Guys: JD is giving me a hell of a price on a new riser of walnut and curly maple, and is getting it out to me ASAP before he leaves for an elk hunt next week. I can't ask for more. I screwed up on the dry fire, and I am not the original owner of the bow. It is possible it had been dry-fired before.

Man....a moment of silence, and a day of mourning.  :(
