Another help me with arrows thread

Stinger

I've read several tuning guides and 20 threads here and I'm more confused than ever about where I should start.  I have a Zipper Extreme Recurve that is 45# at 28".  I draw 27" and shoot split finger with a glove.  I'm only going to use it for hunting so good penetration is an issue.  I don't want to mess with carbon and adding weight tubes, etc. and would prefer aluminum over wood.  I have some 2016 at 29" with 125 gr heads that the back end consistently kicks right in flight leading me to believe it is too stiff.  I can see this on 15 yard shots.  Should I just add weights(3R)to the insert on these until I find the right weight that flys properly?  I'm thinking the weight reduces the spine and gets me higher FOC for more penetration.  Or, should I just start with something else completely?

I shoot old 28 1/2" Herter's F Farbenglass out of my primary bow (35 year old - Father built take-down recurve) pulling 44# at 27" with dacron string and they shoot great out of that bow.  They spine at 48 on the spine-o-meter and weigh 568gr with a 125 gr point, but they fly lousy out of the Zipper.  I'm thinking the more refined/efficient Zipper bow with FF needs a stiffer arrow even though it is much less draw weight.

I know a lot of folks go stiffer than I do on arrows, but I would try a 2013. But for now, just go ahead and put a 175 grain FP on your 2016 and see how it likes that. If you need some I can send them to you. But you will have to wait until ATAR is over!  :bigsmyl:

I shoot a Centaur that is about 43 at my draw, and a Cheyenne that is 46 at my draw (26.5"). They like the 2013 with any weight head, but seem to thump the targets better with the 175 grain heads.

I shoot tapered ash shafts spined 43 on up to 51# and they like those heavy rats too.

Hey Stinger, go to ATAR and we can try out some arrows! Or wait, and we can shoot at NORVA.

Killie,  Unfortunately I can't make it to ATAR.  I'm not familiar with NORVA.  Is that the range over by the Fountainhead Park?

Killdeer

The very one! Membership is cheap, too! There is a work party there on Saturday at 8 AM, if you want to meet folks and join.
