Muzzy Grasshopper Points

I picked up some Muzzy Grasshoppers a while back and finally got around to trying them out.  They sell in a 3 pack for about $13.  Designed as a ring with claws that is held in place behind a field point, they are a weak imitation of a Judo.  The wire isn't a heavy enough gauge, thus each claw requires frequent straightening and repositioning after a shot.

I'll stick with Judos for stump shooting and small game hunting.  Haven't tried out Ace Hex heads but heard they are a good option.

iv also got a few of those grasshoppers but have not used them much yet, but you are right the wire is a lot thiner.

i used the ace hex heads alot they are an outstanding head mate well worth giving them a try!

The wires we use on the grasshoppers is a little thinner and will bend, but it also is very easy to restraighten to shoot again and they are definitely durable enough to do what they are suppose to and that is keep the arrow from going under the grass and over penetrating animals.  With Judo points, if the wire arms get damaged they are very tough to straighten back out, almost impossible with out good pliars, although they do work well.  I have not had any issues with our grasshoppers and do not mind straightening them out so I can use them again.  Mark

I used the Muzzy SG-X Small Game Head. They use the Trocar tip instead of a field point. Didnt have any trouble with them that wasnt fixable. You can get 3 for about $17. Next I'm going to try the G5 Small Game Head and see how it does.

I had some grasshopper points and really like them. Did not mind reshaping them and never had one break on me. Plus they worked great on grouse. The only reason I still do not have them is they were lost in a move.

I haven't used the grasshopper, but I have used the judo many times.   I have bent most of the ones I have used.  I have bent the head, wires, the shaft everything.

I like them, and will continue to use them, but whenever I hear they are indestructable I wonder if the person has used them much.

So just 'cuz the wire bends, doesn't seem like a show stopper of the grasshopper.

I have used both judos and grasshoppers with equal success. I dont bother rebending them as it doesnt affect flight and still keeps them from getting lost. I used mostly grasshoppers at the Muzzy last year and they held up very well, whereas the judos got a little beat up. The tips of the judos mushroomed on a few large rocks and now are slightly askew. They all fly great though, and I havent lost any of either.

I was picking up arrows tipped with grasshoppers and finding the claws bent all the way backwards, parallel with the shaft.  I've straightened Judos with pliers, and will agree that the muzzy's are easier to straighten, but I'll stick with the Judos.  They seem to do a better job snagging grass and brush and stopping without getting so mangled.  

I have a few G5 small game heads and they work well, but a guy here on tradgang said that he had problems with the claws breaking off.

I've used grasshoppers with a steel blunt for grouse.  For this they work well.  Yes, as a stump shooter they bend but I've never had one break. I do agree Judo's are less trouble then a grasshopper for continuous stump shooting.

All you have to do with the G5 SGH is send it to the company and they will replace it.
