If you could pick one jacket to have on a Colorado elk hunt what would it be.  I don't have the time or money to try out a bunch.  Please help me make the right choice.

I have tried all kinds.  I am layering with long sleeve poly henley shirt, and micro fiber fleece pullover for most weather.  Silk poly blend long johns if it is colder.  If real nipply cold for a jacket I am taking a heavy weight makinaw wool cruiser, in red and black plaid.

Go to the GoodWill store and buy yourself 2 or 3 "earth toned" 100% wool sweaters.

You can usually pick them up for under $5 apiece and you'll have LOTS of money left over.

The numerous times I have been there, during the first two weeks of September,  A jacket was only needed for around the campfire.  In the morning and evening I am walking and generating my own heat, while wearing some lighter clothes and long johns.  I carry a lighter wool vest along for the first and last hour.

I agree.. find some old wool sweater or two.  You will end up taking it off after 7:30am or so anyway.   I also wouldn't worry so much about camouflage as good earth tone plaids or solids.

I second what Woodchucker Said.I am addicted to that store.

Early or late in the season?  It can make a big difference from 80 degrees to 20" of snow.

My guess you are Bow hunting It has been really warm the last few years here I literally wore a SHORT SLEEVE under armour T shirt on the LAST day of the season Last year.  That doesnt mean this year will be the sam way.  I Personally USe Field and stream gear which is a Bomber style jacket Covering My Under armour Cold gear.  The Bomber also Doubles an an Inner Jacket for a parka I got it at Dicks Off season for $75 Probably a $300 unit.
Looking into Sitka Gear, But I'm skeptical of their claims, I'll need to try it..

I have and old columbia wool coat, a vest, a lightweight military goretex jacket, and silk weight poly pro.  Is that good enough?  Too much stuff?

You are probably fine, usually you just have to deal with a cool thunderstorm and cool mornings but there is always the chance for a snow storm.
