Hi guys,
here in Italy there is a saying : " Never sell the bear's fur before have kill it ! "....    :)
Anyway I think is better to be prepared to every thing so, due the fact I will be in Ontario next fall hoping to harvest my first black bear, I'd like to know wich is the best way to trasport the fur in at least 24 hours journey.
Frozen? Salted ? Under vacuum ?
I'm thinking to prepare a plain rug by myself at home, using the recipe usually I use for roe deer and other furs.
Any help is welcome .

Ciao Army   :)

As far as I'm aware, European law forbids the import of 'raw' pelts/hides. The skin would have to be fully 'finished' (ie; tanned/taxidermied) before it can be imported. Skins/hides fall into the same import category as raw meat & the same restrictions apply.

Sorry  :(

I would think the best thing to do would be to contact a local taxidermist around Ontario & have it priced up professionally.

Rob is correct. I hunted bears with a German last May. His bear had to be "finished" before he could bring it home. All the taxidermy work was done in British Columbia.

Full body mount $400 per linear foot plus base, ect...

Any more is too much.
