I'm looking into getting a long bow but have a question to hopefully give me a little knowledge. I've looked at the draw length to bow length charts online but everything is geared towards long draw lengths. I have a 27" draw length. Is there a point when a bow can be too long? (The 64"-66" bows are what i have in mind for asking this) Thank you

You'll have no finger pinch at 27" and 64"-66" bow length. I also draw 27" and shoot R/D longbows of 58", 60" and 62" comfortably.

All bows are not created equally, and you'll find a lot of difference in performance from one design to the next at a shorter draw lengths. Very few bowyers build draw length specific bows for higher performance at shorter draw length because the majority of archers average between 28-30". With that being said.... There are bowyers that can do this for you.... Just saying.

Quite a few bow manufacturers will have a chart for draw length vs bow length recommendation. A 60" bow checks most of the boxes for me.  Having said that, a 62" bow is my favorite when accuracy enters into things and I am willing to drop a little speed for feeling a little more overall accuracy.  Everyone will have their own opinion.

I have landed on a 60" longbow
I have a Northerm Mist and Great Northern and both fling an arrow with alot of zip with my 271/2 draw length
I also like their move ability in tight situations either in my treestands or on the ground using deadfalls for groundblinds

Shouldn't have any problems. Just know you will be 2-3 pounds under draw weight @ 28.

Thanks for the help! Got to wait till next year before any trad shoots are in my neck of the woods. But this does help having a little info in my back pocket. Maybe I won't be to overwhelmed :biglaugh:

Another factor is riser/grip length. You may find a 62" bow with a fadeout-to-fadeout distance of 12" and another one of 16", even 18".
This will affect draw length, accuracy, comfort.
Generally, I see a lot of shooters with bows that are too large.
Just shot a hybrid bow of 56" NtN.
Three finger draw worked, and I drew it up to 30".
A friend of mine draws 26" and for him the 56" hybrid made a huge difference to the run-of-the-mill 65" R/D longbow he usually shoots. A lot more efficient at the same draw weight.
Go as low in length as is comfortable for you!
