12.1gpp 202fps. To good to be true?

Just read elsewhere of someone claiming a 53#@30" bow with Uukha limbs shooting a 645gr arrow at 202fps.

Sounds suspect to me. Am I wrong?

Maybe there's an engineering marvel in play with this (limb design?)......  but that is some smokin' speed for an ANVIL of an arrow at 53# even at 30".  Things that make you go Hmmmmm

don't know if this is true or not but I wonder what the lower pound limbs would produce with 500gr arrow.

After shooting my friend Chris's uuka limbs it wouldn't surprise me particularly for someone with a 30" draw.

As many on the site here know, Blackie Schwartz did a bow test every month for years in Traditional Bowhunter Magazine. In those tests, the fastest recurves shot with fingers at a 28" draw with 9 to 1 arrows read in the high 180s f.p.s. It seems a reach that these newer recurves are shooting a 35 percent heavier arrow app. 15 f.p.s. faster with just a 2" longer draw length.

I honestly think that's a bit of a stretch at 12 gpp.

 I did a lot of testing over the years as I tweaked many bow limb designs using different materials. I was using a hooter shooter, with a light kit, dual chronographs, and weighed everything very precisely.

 getting 202 fps at 53# with a 30" draw at 10 gpp can be done, but everything has to be balanced perfectly, and it's really tough to do even using carbon fiber in the limbs.

Actual chrono speeds can vary a lot shooting by hand in different light conditions too. If 5 different guys with a 30" draw shot the same bow through the same chrono, You would get 5 different numbers too.

 The highest numbers are obtained by archers trained in flight shooting techniques. The archer draws and shoots in one smooth motion and releases without pause at full draw. Watch some old videos of some of these guys testing bows.  The string never stops moving. These archers can get higher numbers than a shooting machine. It's quite amazing actually.

But at 12.1 gpp..... I'd say someone was pulling your leg on that statement.


With that being said... I have heard good things about the performance of those limbs, but never tested them myself.    Kirk

Maybe is he is using a shorter riser thereby making the limbs heavier AND they are 53#'s at 28" not 30".

My friend has the new altran(sp) limbs and a 29" draw and he is shooting 40lbs with a 400 grain arrow and I don't think he is getting near 200 fps. It's fast and impressive but not that fast to my eye.

So Uukha limbs are rated on a 21" riser?

At 3 Rivers, Uukha limbs are rated on a 19" riser.  However, for draw weight ratings based on a certain length riser, I would want to see it in print before I put any money down, because I have occasionally seen the same limbs rated based on one length riser one place, and another length riser some other place.

He says he's holding 53#@30" AMO.

So not a case of gaining draw weight by putting it on a shorter riser.

Shot my 100% carbon Uukha's and TG TGX thru the chrony last summer...both set at 50@28 and shooting the same tuned six hundred forty-five gn arrow...12.9 gpp....the Uukha's shot 6 to 7 fps slower and as I recall was in the mid 170's range.
