Tuning question

 I originally posted over on the shooting form board, but didn't get any response,  so...

I need to get ahead of this...  it's driving me crazy!

I have a Black Widow KB 48@28, right handed.  I draw 29.5" and have 31.25" gold tip 340 arrows with 50 grain  inserts and 200 grain points.   Bare shaft shows nock right, but point of impact is good.  I put in extra 50 gr weights on the insert, same result, 70 gr weight- no different.   I went to 100 gr weight with 250 and 300 gr points and still cannot get a weak arrow!

Fletched arrows fly marvelous with the 200 gr points and 50gr weight on the insert.  Am I being too picky?  I'd just a soon have a slightly weak arrow in case I short draw this fall.

Any information would be appreciated!

I think you are under spine (weak) with Nock right at a distance of 5 yds.

If you want to use their Spine Chart, the graphite shafts are at the top. Recurve is left and longbow is right. Use the actual draw wt. at 29.5" then go across for the point wt. above. Start with k 145 gr then work up to what you intend to use.  Also, be conscious of the bow set up, and form, stay close 5 - 10 ft. then work back. Don't  bare shaft broadheads. They sell a setup to paper test on their website, and you can make one or order theirs.

When bare shaft testing, all you worry about is the point of impact.

Proper way to do it is shoot a couple bare shafts along with a couple fletched shafts.

If the bare shafts group with the fletched shafts, then all is good.

If they group to the right of the fletched shafts then they are weak in spine.

If they group to the left of the fletched shafts then they are stiff in spine.

If they group high, then lower your nock point.

If they shoot low then raise your nock point.

That is for a right handed shooter.

I get the same result out of my Dark timber 500 I am run 175gr point when I add 50gr brass insert still get stiff spine the arrow, Here my bare shafts left is 50/55 145gr point, the one in the center is 500 175gr point and 50gr brass insert and the bottom is a 500 with a 175gr point as you can see no big difference in flight. I just fletch them up both 3 blade Snuffers and 4 blade Zwickey fly awesome. shot at 17 yards

Do you have a 400 spine you can try?

I'm leaning in kennym's direction.  According to Eastman's spine chart, a 340 spine arrow is about 92-93#.  You are shooting it on the long side and have a fair amount of weight up front, but it may still be too stiff.  Worth trying a 400, but if the fletched arrows fly good, I wouldn't worry about it.

I do not have any 400 arrows, but I used 3 rivers spine calculator and it came out exactly  on the money.   340 shaft at 31.25" with a 50 gr insert, 200 gr point and 3-4" fletching.

I'll try my broadheads and see how they fly and go from there.
