Wood arrow shaft suppliers
« on: April 05, 2025, 08:12:29 PM »
Hello all, been ages since I've been on the page.  I've been pretty well set for arrow shafts for years but I'm finding that I need to order some and boy things have changed.  Prices seen crazy and most of the suppliers I used to deal with I either can't find or I can't remember their names.  I decided it is time to just ask who are the "go to guys" for quality shafts these days.  Of course I like Port Orford cedars but not opposed to good alternatives. I've used Sitka spruce and Douglas fir in the past.  The sitka was nice but seemed to break easy.  Doug fir seemed to have a lot of grain runout.  Have used maple and hickory from Silent Pond years ago that were bulletproof but awfully heavy. Hit like a freight train though.  May need a couple different spine groups but definitely at least a dozen in 50-55 or 55-60.  These will be for my son shooting an Osage selfbow that's 57@27.  Would love some nice tapered cedars for him  I used to get them from once particular place but danged if I can remember who from.  If I heard it I'd know the name. I know it wasn't Rose City or 3 Rivers.  Occasionally bought from Mike Horton at the Nocking Point years ago but he retired and sold out to somebody else I believe.

So, help me out.  Used to be there was always about 2 or 3 companies everybody used for good reason.  Simply above and beyond service.  Who are they these days?

Thanks
Dave

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

I've moved away from wood arrows in recent years, but Wapiti always took care of me with POC, and I became friends with Dan and his wife and his dog at various shoots they visited.  https://wapitiarcherypoc.com/

I've consistently gotten extremely good Douglas Fir shafts from Surewood and Sitka Spruce from True Shaft Archery. I've tried Cedar from a few sources and seldom have gotten the same quality.

Doug fir from Surewood Shafts have been my go-to woodie source for near 2 decades ... really good stuff.  They'll have sales a few times a year, too

I've been buying some good cedar shafts from Wapiti Archery and Surewood has excellent quality Douglas fir.

Thanks guys, Wapiti is a company I've dealt with before but forgot about. Will look into them and surewood also.

Forrester shafts is also great to work with and carries heavy hardwood shafts.

Thanks streamguy, that's a supplier I'm not familiar with. I'll have to look them up

I've dealt with Forrester, and am happy with the heavier spines he has.  Also, traded with a couple Wallers for tapered and footed shafts.

Like Rob, Been using Surewood Shafts for close to 20 years.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

I realize that you have probably already ordered but ordering from archery past is a great option because they have seconds in Doug fir and points and nocks.
