Any Sarrels longbow fans?
« on: April 01, 2025, 08:48:27 PM »
I recently made a deal on a Sarrels Black Hills r/d longbow and it should arrive next week. I know that Mr Sarrels retired due to health issues. I have used the search function on here and everything I've found has been positive. When I worked in Tulsa, a lot of the local guys were shooting Sarrels, but none of them were lefties, so I didn't get to shoot one. He was set up at the McCallister shoot but was sold out of lefties by the time I got to his booth. Any feedback from the "Gang"?

Several guys I shot with last year had them and loved them. Hardly ever see them in the classifieds anymore and when you do, they are wrong (rh) handed :)

Bob Sarrels was a great guy. i met him in Texas years ago at a 3D shoot, and shot some of his bows. They were nothing fancy, but well put together decent shooting bows.  .02 cents worth... Kirk

A measure of how good a bow is would be how few you see on the market.  Bob made a excellent bow.  I shot several over the years at various shoots and had no complaints.  One of the many good relatively small bowyers.

I went out to his house a number of years ago and shot a bow of his,and ended up buying it. It's a nice bow,and shoots pretty quick.

I no longer buy bows after acquiring my two Sarrels longbows.

They do everything I need from a stick and string and Bob is a heck of a gentleman whom I'm glad I was able to financially support through my love of the outdoors.

One was his former personal bow that landed in my hands second hand.  It's a gorgeous one piece.  The other bow is the first two piece take down Sierra to leave his shop after me asking him annually to do one for almost a decade.  It was made from some private stash cocobolo and wears the most mature buck I've taken with a bow on its limb tips.  Both are identical poundage and length and they share arrows.  When I travel, the 2 piece goes in a Pelican Storm case with all the stuff and locally I swap between them.
1pc and 2pc Sarrels Sierra Mountain Longbows - both 53.5lbs @ 29"

My favorite bow.  But the riser cracked and I want to get a new one.
