In June of 2023 at the Compton Rendevouzvous, I was honored to shoot an arrow in memory of our dear friend G. Fred Asbell. Further humbling, Teresa Asbell had me shoot the arrow with one of Fred's favorite and original Bighorn bows.

Teresa and I have discussed this for over a year, and we have brought our memorial effort to fruition by reproducing that exact bow.

I am not a Bighorn Bow collector...hundreds of you know more about the details and spec's of Bighorn Bows than me. That is not the point of this project.

It is purely from our hearts...for me it is my love of the Asbell's, both Fred and Teresa. We recently recognized the 2 year anniversary of Fred's passing. The fact that Teresa and I talk multiple times a week, and we have NEVER had a conversation that did not include Fred's memory. This isn't all sad....we laugh and joke about "WWFD"

We engaged Henry Bodnik and Tim Cosgrove, the owners of Shrew Bows to build our bow. Teresa and I were both very close with Ron LaClair, and the way Henry and Tim have honored and grown the Shrew legacy made them an easy choice to build these bows.

I have not seen the finished product yet, Henry will be bringing at least 2 of them to Kalamazoo this weekend.

I am making this announcement on TradGang first for a reason. The TradGang family has been very good to the Asbells and to Traditional Woodsman. You are good to us, and we love you back :biglaugh:

Enjoy the pictures...more to come.

Roger, fantastic idea and tribute.  Fred was a fantastic conversationalist and I met you through being a part of the hunting camp involving Fred/Ron at Shrewhaven that you were the winning bidder benefiting St. Jude’s.  I had met Fred before that but got to know him on a different level there.  We shared a few campfires at shoots after that and each time I came away a more informed individual about life.   I can’t think of a better person to point man this project.  Well done sir.  👍👍

Wonderful...I've always loved the look of the original Bighorn. Any chance of a take down?

I honestly didn't know that Bighorn made a one piece bow. Are there going to be any takedowns made?

I got a first hand look at these today at the Expo, as I told Roger, the pictures don't do them justice, they were very comfortable in the hand and drew very smooth, I didn't shoot them, but they felt very good in the hand.  I was fortunate that my wife was with me and no order was placed....yet!!!

Good Morning everyone - It was a pretty amazing couple of days in Kalamazoo!
First, I apologize for this haphazard launch. We just weren't sure what we were going to have finished this quickly, and when we found out we were going to have 2 bows to show, we knew we wanted to show them in Kalamazoo this weekend.

We took several orders, and the 2 bows we brought to the show are now available.....they are kinda light, 30# and 40#.

I have several PM's asking about how to order:

Just send me an email at [email protected]

I will get your information and the specifics of your bow.No deposit required.

The base model (which I favor) is $800 + shipping

The Ebony and birch model is $875

It's an extra $10 for bow quiver inserts.

Our lead time right now is 3-4 months, but that will grow as our list does.

Within a week or so we will have our website squared away, so orders can be placed there. Sorry for the unpreparidness, but we are early on this.

Thank you SO MUCH for all of the support and positive feedback!

Which one is the 30#’er?

Are these 60” in length?
