7000 year old Hjarnø bow.
« on: March 23, 2022, 07:17:11 PM »
I took a trip to Denmark last week and the bow from the Horsens fjord is now on display in Moesgaard Museum. 7000 years old. Some pictures. I posted the measurements in June last year.

That is the one Max. The pic you post have the measurements (185cm long) from the enlarged drawing. I think I also posted the measurements of the original. Forgot to say it is Elm.

In the past I did not have any luck exporting a drawing. :dunno:
All the measurements are there and was easy to draw

EDIT The real bow is the 166 bow.
It was modified for our longer draws to 185

I believe we use the same cad program and I haven't tried exporting but it has worked to print full size and then scan to PDF.  Or print to fit page and scan that to PDF.

If all you want is a PDF then just print it straight to PDF and save the possible errors in printing and scanning. I use a virtual printer called CutePDF, it is a free download and works very well.

Max, the real bow is the 166 cm bow. The 185 cm was enlarged by Peter Svinkløv to better suit modern day archers.

That bow looks to be about identical to one illustrated by Baker in one of the TBBs.

Bue, do you remember if this bow has nocks cut into the tips or were they smooth where the string tied around the tips? Maybe a single side nock?
I just received a rock elm stave and I want to try to copy this very cool artifact. I'm thinking about using the elg sinew from you on it too.

The original is just under 2" wide Pat, is your stave wide enough.
Ive been wanting to make one but all I have is Osage and not quite long enough
