Thought I would share some pics and info about our recent hog hunt with you.

I'll get it started and hopefully get Don (hitman) and David to chime in also.

The plan was for me to leave my house at 6:45am Thursday morning February 21 and pick up Don and a friends trailer at 7:30am. I think I was a bit excited as I arrived at the predetermined pick up spot at 7:15. When I arrived, I realized I wasn't the only one excited as Don was already there and waiting.

After 11 hours on the road, we stopped in Brunswick, Georgia for the night. We were traveling from WV to the Melbourne Florida area.

These small pigs showed up, but I held out for something a bit bigger.

After we arrived and unloaded our gear, David and I drove to the airport and picked up his son Matt. That completed our hunting party.

I apologize for some of these pics. I had difficulty posting and had to download a photo editor. This post should have preceded the last one. We all took stands the first evening.

I was the only one with shot opportunities, but passed on a sow and 6 piglets. I was about to take the sow, but she plopped down and a couple of the piglets began nursing. That's when I decided to pass on them,

The acorn crop was abundant this year and that made hunting the feeders less productive.

The first morning sit, Saturday the 23rd, wasn't very productive as far as pig sightings, but there were plenty of wildlife to see. After a good lunch, Don and I tried some fishing. We caught a few tilapia and bass. I didn't know him before this trip, but we quickly became friends.

Saturday evening went better, but that is someone else's story. However, there were still no bacon put down by trad equipment.

Then came a special day. Sunday morning was a bit hot, in more ways than one.

Have I mentioned how much I like those Simmons broad Heads? When you see your arrow sink to the fletching and you know it's "money", now that's a great feeling!

What poundage are you shooting with the Simmons. I've been curious how they would perform out of a 40# recurve.

That's a good size pig.  Congratulations.

Blood: I'm shooting about 47#. I was amazed that the broad head that went completely through this nice sized sow would still shave hair from my arm after recovery.

I washed it off and touched it up with 5 or so strokes across the rada sharpener. That's something else I like about them... easy to sharpen (I'm a bit challenged when it comes to sharpening things.)

Thanks wudstix and GCook.

Don scored next on a nice boar. I'll leave him some time to post. David then took the fattest sow I've ever seen in my relatively short pig hunting experience. We all called her "Fatty". Maybe Dave would like to post the pic of him and Fatty...the one where one of the two of them have a big smile going. :biglaugh:

After some good food and some more afternoon fishing, we got back to it. Don had some sightings, but we didn't add to our coolers.

Monday morning was cooler and our time was quickly passing. We planned to leave on Tuesday morning. I had never taken a boar...that was about to change.
