On my Howard Hill Classic course, I've always tried to set up a challenging, yet fun course.   Good hunting shots, set up for left & right handed archers.  I also try and make sure that the limbs on that archers bow won't be striking anything in it's way.

NOW, you might come up to a stake on a few targets and look down to the target and say, "part of the kill zone is covered".  Don't worry, with a foot on the shooting stake, you might have to adjust or lean over just a little, but I always have the entire kill zone wide open.  TAHT'S WHAT REAL HUNTING SHOTS LOOK LIKE, RIGHT!?

Come, you'll not regret it.

Levy Bryant as well as Shana Wilson are really getting pumped about holding the IBO Mid America here in Alabama, along with the Howard Hill Classic.

I'm kinda getting excited myself.

Possum Head

Terry, would you think that would add 100 heads above what normally attends the classic?

T. W. Harris

I'm hoping that or more.  There will be a separate course for the IBO shooters and I encourage everyone to shoot the IBO course as well.

Along with the Howard Hill Classic course, the IBO will set up a 30 target course with a shotgun start, shooting with your peers. We will have the IBO Showcase Shootdown on Saturday evening, with the top 15 men from the white stakes, the top 15 men from the orange stakes, and the top 15 women, by the first round scores off the Howard Hill Classic range. Terry Harris is the great organizer of this event, and the IBO is very excited about partnering with the Howard Hill Classic.

Thanks Ms Shana, BTW.

You IBO competitors, when you're trying to qualify for Saturday's Championship Shoot Down, you'll have to shoot the Howard Hill Classic course.  In doing so, you'll automatically qualify for the Howard Hill Classic.

NOW, if you only want to shoot for the day, or all weekend, you can.  The difference is that if your 1st round is beaten by a higher score on the HH Classic course, you can turn that score card in to help you hopefully win your class in the Howard Hill Classic

Folks, let me clarify something.
There will be TWO separate events, TWO separate courses for ONE OUTSTANDING TIME!!!

Utilizing both Tannehill State Park and a beautiful Boy Scout Camp that sits adjacent to the Park.

You can shoot one or the other or BOTH.

Awards for both.

BTW, there's plenty of parking available.

I think earlier on this thread, there was a mention of 30 targets for the IBO, I think there will be two 20 target courses for the IBO.

NOW, let me clarify in case there was some confusion about qualifying for the Championship Shoot Down..

At some other IBO events, there has been what is called a "Hunters Challenge" course you'd have to shoot if you wanted to qualify for the Saturday Championship Shoot Down.

There won't be a "Hunters Challenge" course, the "Howard Hill Classic" course will be THAT course one will have to shoot to qualify for the Shoot Down.

So, every class will be represented at the Howard Hill Classic, your 1st round automatically puts you into the competition to see if you qualify for the Shoot Down, as well as enters for into the Howard Hill Classic competition.

When you register at the HH Classic table, there will be an all day shooting fee (if you just want to shoot one day) or special weekend rates for singles and families. These rates entitle you to shoot either all day or all weekend.

After your 1st round, you don't have to stop there.  You can continue to shoot the Howard Hill Classic to improve your HH Classic score if you'd like or just shoot for fun, YOUR CHOICE.

[attachment=1,msg2852779]BTW folks, when you enter Tannehill Historical during business hours, you'll be greeted by the friendly Park gate keeper.

If you're camping, there's no other fee to enter the Park.  If you're not camping in the Park, you'll pay a one time fee and then pick up a Park Pass from our registration area some you can come and go as you please.

If you come after hours, you can set up your camping and then go to the General Store the next morning and pay to camp then.

Wow, GREAT NEWS for you men & women self bow shooters.  Even though I've always had those two self bow classes at the HH Classic, The IBO has not, especially for the women.  But maybe in the future for both, in the meantime, here's a pretty good idea.

Levy Bryant with the IBO, has just let me know that there will be a men and women's self bow shoot down on Saturday afternoon, time yet to be announced.  There will also be some sort of 1st place prize, also yet to be determined.

NOW, you don't have to turn in any kind of score, JUST BRING YOUR SELF BOWS and you're in, EXCITING!!!

Folks, more exciting news

Arvin Weaver is once again offered to sponsor the Self Bow Shootout at the IBO Mid-America / Howard Hill Classic! $250 cash with an Arvin Weaver custom self bow to be raffled. The proceeds from the raffle go into the cash prize total for the winners. Thanks Arvin. That's going to be an awesome shootout. Bring your selfbows and get ready to have some fun. Saturday June 1st 4pm

The question has been asked and now answered.

"IBO membership is not required to shoot the Mid-America Championship. Of course the IBO would love for everyone to become members to support and protect our right to bow hunt."

Come and shoot one or the other or shoot both, which I think is best, IMO.

For you IBO shooters, when you shoot the Howard Hill Classic, and I think if you do, here's what you're shooting for.

Folks, as I mentioned earlier, the IBO is having a Men's & Women's Self Bow Shoot Down on Saturday afternoon.

The 1st Place shooters will be splitting $250.00 to start but Arvin Weaver has generously donated one of his outstanding self bows to be raffled off and the proceeds from the raffle will also be added to the $250.00.

NOW, will all that being said, there is a woman competitor, can really shoot, has informed Levy Bryant, that she can get as many as TWENTY WOMEN self bow shooters to compete.  Sh'e been trying to get the IBO to have a Women's Self Bow class in the IBO for years.

I know who she is and I must say the ball is in her court.  Let's show Levy that YOU CAN BRING IT GIRL, LOL.

Alright everybody, I've explained that the HH Classic is a multi round event with the highest score you turn in counts, no matter if it is your 1st round or your last.

NOW, I'm gonna try and explain a little about how the IBO rounds are to be shot.

There will be FIVE times that IBO shooters can go out to shoot 40 targets.

There will be two times on Friday and it will be shot gun starts:  First time will be 8:00am and 11:00am.  Saturday will be the same, 8:00am and 11:00am.

On Sunday you can start at 8:00am, but it will not be a shotgun start.

THIS IS IMPORTANT!!
As long as you get 40 targets shot, you are finished with the IBO round.  You can shoot all 40 on Friday same on Saturday, if you can get them in..

Or you can shoot 20 on Friday & 20 on Saturday.

Or you can shoot 20 Targets on Friday or Saturday and finish your 20 targets on Sunday.  AS LONG AS YOU GET 40 TARGETS IN.

All other time can be spent shooting the Howard Hill Classic range if you'd like.  WHEW!!!

If you have any questions, please feel free to write here, email me or call me.

All IBO times are shotgun starts. You will be assigned a stake with your peers. Shotgun starts for the IBO are Friday & Saturday 8am & 11am, and Sunday 8am.
You must shoot 40 targets, however you get them in. I suggest shooting all 40, or 20 and 20. IBO course has A & B ranges made up of 20 targets each. It will be a weekend full of shooting our bows. Can't wait.

Let me remind you of the SIX bows that will be raffled off over the weekend.

Arvin Weaver has donated one of his beautiful Self Bows to be raffled off with the proceeds from that to be added with the $250.00 to be split with the Men & Women winners of the Self Bow shoot-down.

Now, the other FIVE to be raffled.

Big Jim has been so generous over many years by donating one of his Custom Longbows.

Bear Archery, another tremendous contributor to the Howard Hill Classic by donating bows for years as well.  This year Bear Archery has donated a Bear Montana Longbow and a Bear Super Grizzly Recurve.

Johnathan Karch with 3Rivers has supported me from day one and again he has done so.  Johnathan has donated a DAS Recurve.

NOW, I come to my friend Tim Mullins with Acadian Woods Bows.  This year, Tim offered to build a "One of a Kind" bow to raffle of at the Howard Hill Classic.  I've seen a rough cut video of this bow, all I can say is WOW!!!

Folks, together these bow are worth, not hundreds, BUT THOUSANDS of dollars.

Let me also add, there will only be a limited number of chances for the five bows I have.  Each chance is $20.00 and one will be given away at different time TBA during Friday & Saturday.

Folks, I may be wrong but I don't think I've ever heard of this many bows being raffled at Traditional Archery event ANYWHERE!!!
